May 24, 1967
The meeting was called to order at 9:45 a.m. by Chairman Frances
Clark in Committee Room "A", Auditorium Wing, Service Center, Pontiac.
COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT:
Frances Clark, Chairman; Robert Allen, Velma Austin, John Carey,
Donald Kalmbach, Daniel Murphy, Frazer Staman, and Dorothy Olson.
COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT:
Daniel Barry, and Clarence Durbin.
OTHERS PRESENT•
Director, Kenneth L. Van Natta.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Mr. Van Natta gave the following resume of the Oakland County
Planning Commission Recreational. Study of physical. properties:
1. Staff hired-3 men presently on recreation study.
1 Professor to outline project and
compile findings.
2. Approximate cost to Park Commission, $8,000.00
3. Staff hired-1 man for Clinton River basin flood
control study.
4. Approximate cost to Park Commission, $1800.00.
Mr. Staman reported on the possible acquisition of Acreage located
in Novi Township presently owned by the Highway Department.
The Director reported on the Davisburg Park as follows:
1. $5,400.00 grossed since April 15th opening.
2. Approximately $1,200.00 to $1,300.00 profit.
3. Desirability of purchasing food through the
county, when adequate storage arrangements
can be provided, thereby obtaining a price
advantage if possible.
Mr. Van Natta brought the following points to the attention of
the Commission in regard to the Groveland Park.
1. Appraisals are presently 10 days overdue, and no
committment made as to a completion date.
2. Dr. Matthews, the owner, has been experiencing
legal difficulties with Oakland County and State
Health Departments in relation to the Mobile Home
act.
3. Proposed that the Parks & Recreation Commission
lease and operate the property, with the exception
of the residence and rental buildings, for the sum
of $10,000.00 for the season, inasmuch as units of
government are exempt from the regulatory act.

Discussion ensued regarding the urgency of purchasing the property
quickly in order to avoid cancellation of long standing trailer
reservations. It was suggested that it would be an advantage to
the park system to purchase a successfully operating park.
Moved by Mr. Carey, supported by Mr. Kalmbach:
The proposal shall be tabled pending the completion
of the appraisals on the Groveland Park property.
Motion carried.
