HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 1967.05.31 - 38357PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING MAY 31, 1967 The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by Chairman, Frances Clark, in Committee Room "A", Auditorium Wing, Service Center, Pontiac. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Frances Clark, Chairman; Robert P. Allen, Velma Austin, Clarence Durbin, Donald Kalmbach, Daniel T. Murphy, Dorothy Olson, and Frazer Staman. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Daniel Barry, and John L. Carey OTHERS PRESENT: Kenneth L. Van Natta, Director, Dr. Bernard D. Berman, Health Director, and Joe Mullen of the Pontiac Press. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Report on Groveland Property 1. Verbal appraisals of property submitted, with written appraisals nearing completion. A. Mr. Millis $450,000.00 - Includes land, all buildings and furnishings, including medical equipment in the clinic. B. Mr. Irwin $4801-000.00 - Includes land, all buildings, furnishings and contents, with the exception of the medical equipment in the clinic. C. $17,000.00 - Appraisal of medical equipment. 2. Staff A. Manager -under contract of $15,000.00 per year. B. Ground Maintenance People. C. Life Guards D. Concession Stand Operators E. 2 Miscellaneous Clean-up People. 3. 1966 Receipts A. $53,000.00 - Total Gross a. $43,000.00-Park usage, including trailer park. $10,000.00-Rentals $17,800.00-Reported net income. 4. Asking price by owner, Dr. Mathews = $5001,000.00 Moved by Mr. Allen, supported by Mr. Kalmbach: The Chairman shall appoint a committee for the purpose of negotiating a contract for the purchase of the Groveland Township site, presently known as "Mathews Groveland Estates Recreation Area." Motion carried. Page 2 Park Commission Meeting May 31, 1967 The Chairman appointed the following committee: Frances Clark, Clarence Durbin, Donald Kalmbach and Kenneth Van Natta. Dr. Berman gave the following report: 1. Groveland Park has completely complied with all but one of the improvements required by the Oakland County Health Department. 2. Circuit Court has ruled the park requires state licensing, which has not been secured. 3. Park has opened, pending written order from Judge Beasley. The Park and Recreation Director informed the Commission of the purchase by Oakland County, of a 110 acre site adjoining the Children's Village, for the purpose of long range future expansion. The suggestion was made that the property might be used as a golf course during the 25 year interim. Meeting adjourned 10:45 a.m. Velma Austin Secretary
