September 13, 1967
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Frances Clark, at
10:30 a.m. in the Supervisors Auditorium.
COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT:
Chairman Frances Clark, John Carey, Velma Austin, Robert Allen,
Clarence Durbin, Daniel Murphy, Dorothy Olson, Fraser Staman,
Daniel Barry.
COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT:
Donald Kalmbach
OTHERS PRESENT:
Kenneth L. Van Natta, Director and Mr. Edward Laird of Wilcox
and Laird.
Certain real property was visited and physically reviewed as a
possible recreation site. This particular parcel of property
seemed to have the amenities needed for a recreation area and
was favorably viewed by the Commission.
The Commission then traveled to Oakland University where they
were the guests of Dr. Varner. Dr. Varner presented their
"Performing Arts" program and requested the Commission to con-
sider the possibility of the Parks and Recreation Department
financing an open pavilion, to be constructed on the Campus and
used in conjunction with the "Meadowbrook Festival". Dr. Varner
estimated the cost of the building at $500,000.00.
Dr. Varner then guided the Commission on a tour of the Campus.
It was suggested by Mr. Carey that a sub -committee be formed to
give this proposal some additional study.
Meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
