HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 1967.09.19 - 38362PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING September 19, 1967 The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m., in the Conference Room, Supervisor's Auditorium. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Frances Clark, Chairman; John Carey, Velma Austin, Robert Allen, Clarence Durbin, Daniel Murphy, Dorothy Olson, Daniel Barry and Donald Kalmbach. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Frazer Staman OTHERS PRESENT: Kenneth L. Van Natta, Director Moved by Durbin, supported by Murphy, that the minutes of the July 26 meeting be approved as printed. Motion carried. The specific site for Park acquisition,previously viewed by the Commission, was discussed. Mr. Van Natta reported an asking price of $575,000.00, with 6 1/4% interest on the unpaid balance. A counter offer was made of $505,000.00 at no interest. Discussion followed. Moved by Barry, supported by Allen, that the Director meet with the property owner and purchase the property, within the above figures, at the best price and terms possible. Motion carried. Discussion regarding Chancellor Varners' proposal followed. Moved by Allen, supported by Durbin, that a sub -committee be appointed to investigate the possibility of the Park Commission cooperating with Chancellor Varner in some manner to assist with his program and to report back to the Commission. Motion carried. Chairman Clark then appointed the following members to this sub -committee - Mr. Robert='Allj3tti,Mrs. Frances Clark and Mr. Clarence Durbin. Mr. Van Natta advised the Commission of additional conversations with Dr. Mathews, relative to our taking possession of Groveland November 1, 1967 instead of March 1, 1968 - tenative agreements to date change are not to affect purchase agreement or to include additional costs to either party, except for fuel bill to heat residence only. Mr. Van Natta has made offer to purchase same for fair appraised value. Park Commission also to receive counters in Clerk's office. Mr. Murphy discussed a request from City of Royal Oak officials to meet with the Park Commission. Mr. Van Natta was asked to invite them to our next meeting. Moved by Durbin, supported by Carey, that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. Velma Austin Secretary VM/pm
