May 29, 1969
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Frances Clark at
10:00 a.m. in the Parks and Recreation Commission room.
COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT:
Chairman Frances Clark, Vice Chairman John Carey, Secretary
Velma Austin, Clarence Durbin, James Reid, Sol Lomerson,
Daniel Barry, Frank Richardson, Henry Schiffer.
COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT:
Thomas Dillon
ALSO PRESENT:
Kenneth L. Van Natta, Director
The minutes of April. 22 and the Field trip of May 15, 1969
were discussed.
Moved by Mr. Reid, supported by Mr. Lomerson that the
minutes be approved as written.
Motion carried.
A preliminary development plan of Addison -Oaks was presented
to the Commission. Mr. Van Natta explained that as more
studies are made some of the areas would be changed for more
suitable activities. The trap houses will be removed because
of their poor location. This area has been designated for
beach and picnicking, also private picnics as there have been
numerous requests for such an area.
Plans for revamping the swimming pool at the main house are
now in process, and work will be started as soon as possible.
Mr. Van Natta reported to the Commission of his meeting with
the Addison Township Planning and Zoning Board. The township
is willing to work with us to clear the zoning for campers.
Mr. Durbin commended the Director on his progress with de-
velopment plans for Addison -Oaks.
Mr. Van Natta reported to the Commission that due to the time
element involved for development and rezoning, the National
Campers and Hikers Association have been notified that we
would not be able to allow them to use Addison -Oaks for their
1970 Jamboree.

Mr. Van Natta reported that the two-day Boy Scout Jamboree
held at Groveland-Oaks was a complete success. The attendance
for this Jamboree was 935 Boy Scouts plus family, friends.
The Commission meeting date was discussed and it was suggested
that it be changed to another day in order that all members
could schedule their time.
Moved by Mr. Durbin, supported by Mr. Richardson that
Commission meeting day be changed to the third (3rd)
Friday of each month. Time to be 9:30 a.m.
Motion carried.
The Board of Supervisors resolution appointing Mrs. Solberg to
the Park Commission was presented to the Commission. The Board
of Supervisors to be notified that as of the date of Mrs. Sol -
berg's appointment, no vacancy existed on the Park Commission.
Mr. Carey's letter of resignation, effective May 31, 1969 was
read by the acting Secretary.
Moved by Mr. Schiffer, supported by Mr. Barry that with
regret the Commission accept the resignation of Vice
Chairman John Carey and that a suitable plaque be pre-
sented to him for his service with the Parks and Recre-
ation Commission.
Motion carried.
Mr. Van Natta reported on the progress of the Derby Exposition
to be held at the Pontiac Mall, and the running of the Derby
in July.
The Parks and Recreation display sign is now located at the
Northland Shopping Center and is scheduled for various loca-
tions throughout the county for the summer.
Mr. Lacey will work with the Local Affairs Committee on the
Sesquicentennial celebration. The Committee was informed that
the Parks Commission could not share expense but Mr. Lacey,
Assistant Director, would act as the correlator of the cele-
bration and their liaison agent.
The recent break-in at Davisburg was reported to the Commission.
Mr. Van Natta will send a written request to the Road Commission
asking for an extension on our option for the Davisburg property.
Moved by Mr. Barry, supported by Mr. Durbin that the
meeting be adjourned.
Motion carried.
