The meeting was called to order at 10:25 A.M. in the Parks and Recreation Commission Room by Chairman E. Frank Richardson. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman E. Frank Richardson, Vice Chairman Lewis E. Wint, Secretary Velma Austin, Betty Fortino,.Fred Harris, George Kuhn, Dr, Joseph Montante. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Richard Vogt, Marjorie Walker ALSO PRESENT: R. Eric Reickel; Jon.J. Kipke; Charles Ross; Kathleen Dougherty; Robert Salogar, Anthony M. Franco, Inc.; Bill Willoughby, Daily Tribune. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Moved by Mrs. Fortino, supported by Mr. Wint,<.to approve the minutes of the meeting of October 8, 1976, as written. Motion carried. APPROVAL OF VOUCHERS: Moved by Mrs. Austin, supported by Mr. Kuhn, to approve payment of Vouchers 10-1 through 10-203. Discussion followed. AYES: Montante, Wint, Austin, Fortino, Kuhn, Richardson (6) NAYS: (0) A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the motion carried. STATEMENT OF OPERATIONS: Moved by Mr. Kuhn, supported by Mr. Wint, to `-- accept Statement of Operations Motion carried. carried. (Commission Meeting, October 29, 1976) Page Two NATURE EDUCATION PROGRAM: Kathleen Dougherty presented an overview of the nature education program that is being made available to schools throughout Oakland County. Slides and posters will be utilized with Kathleen's verbal presentation.and'a question and answer session will be included -in the one -hour program. Commissioner Wint requested a bimonthly progress report on the nature program. "NAME THE GOLF COURSE" CONTEST: Based upon entries submitted, choice of names for the Southeast Oakland County Golf Course has been narrowed to five. Staff requested Commission action on selecting the winning name. Discussion followed. Moved by Mr. Wint, supported by Mr. Kuhn, to table selection of a name until the next meeting. Motion carried. Moved by Mr. Kuhn, supported by Mrs. Fortino, the following procedure be adopted for name selection: (1) 100% attendance of Commissioners at meeting or a signed recommendation by them (2) the final decision require 2/3 vote of Commission for adoption of the name. Motion carried. OAKLAND COUNTY RECREATION MASTER PLAN: Mr. Reickel explained that the Oakland County Recreation Plan, as prepared by the Planning Division for Parks and Recreation had been necessitated by requirement of the Department of Natural Resources that a County and/or a community have a master plan before they can become eligible for funding for park projects. A special meeting was called for Wednesday, December 1, 1:30 p.m., to review the master plan. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: --Will be speaking. -about Wave Pool at Ohio Park Congress in Cincinnati on November 4. --Received tentative agreement from DNR on the funding request by the Commission for First Phase of the proposed Tennis Center at Waterford -Oaks. It would be a matching grant of $300,000 from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. Discussion followed on priority of items as included in the master plan, ie, tennis facility vs. softball diamonds. (Commission Meeting, October 29, 1976) Page Three Commissioner Harris requested a cost projection of revenues from both softball and tennis tournaments. Staff will proceed with application and present to Commission on November 12. Jack Anderson, Anderson/Lesniak, will be present at next meeting to discuss preliminaries of a tennis facility.
