PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
June 24, 1977
The meeting was called to order by Chairman E. Frank Richardson at
10:20 a.m. in the Parks and Recreation Commission Room,
COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT:
Chairman E. Frank Richardson, Vice Chairman Marjorie Walker,
Secretary Richard Vogt, Don Deni, Betty Fortino, John Gnau, George
Kuhn, Dr. Joseph Montante, Lewis Wint.
ALSO PRESENT:
R. Eric Reickel; Jon J. Kipke; Arnold Johnston; Sheila Cox; Robert
Bomia; Rod Whaley; Robert Brumbach, Director of Special Programs,
Clarkston Schools; Paul McGovern; Tarry McGovern; John Gitre,

Moved by Mr. Gnau, supported by Mr. Wint, to
approve payment of Vouchers 6-1 through 6-123.

A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the
motion carried.
STATEMENT OF OPERATIONS:
Moved by Dr. Montante, supported by Mrs. Fortino,
to receive Statement of Operations for May, 1977.
Motion carried.
SCAMP:
SCAMP is a summer day camp program for special children with a
combined academic/recreational emphasis, operated by the Clarkston
(Comr_lission Meeting, June 24, 1977)

Co=unity School District. Robert Brumbach, Director of Special
Programs. presented slides of the SCAMP Program in which the
Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission's Independence -
Oaks facility was utilized. The Clarkston SCAMP Program has 250
physically and mentally impaired children from nine school dis-
tricts in northern Oakland County enrolled in its 1977 Su=_,er
Program.
ACOUISITION PROPOSALS:
Moved by Mrs. Fortino, supported by Mr. Gnau,
to thank Dr. J. W. Head and inform him the
Parks and Recreation Commission is not inter-
ested in acquiring his property located in
West Bloomfield Township.

A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the
motion carried.
Moved by Mr. Deni, supported by Mr. Kuhn, to
inform Tyler Realty & Investment Company that
the Parks and Recreation Commission is not in-
terested in acquiring a golf course in the north-
west section of the County at this time.

SKATEBOARD PARK PRESENTATION:
Mr. John Gitre, Lucky Line Products, presented a film on skate-
boarding and introduced the concept of a "skateboard park" within
a County Park.
DIRECTOR'S REPORT:
---Received request from James Lanni, County Commissioner, asking
the Parks and Recreation Commission to give consideration to building
a wave pool in the south end of the County. Mr. Reickel submitted
a letter informing Mr. Lanni there was a possibility of inclusion
of a wave pool in the Commission's five-year capital program.

---Submitted two projects to James Brennan for consideration: under
the Anti -Recession Fiscal Aid Program; renovation of tees and
greens at White Lake -Oaks and replacement of perimeter fencing at
Addison -Oaks.
---Received grant through Manpower Division for the Youth Conser-
vation Corp to provide approximately 20 workers for lakes, -ore trail
improvement at Independence -Oaks.
---Informed by "The Oaks" that the Liquor Control Commission is
investigating the transfer of a Class "C" liquor license to
Springfield -Oaks Golf Course.
---Received letter of resignation from Robert Bomia who is taking
a position with Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission.
---Distributed Mobile Recreation schedule for June 27 to July 4.
---Water Boggan presentation scheduled for July 8 meeting.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Chairman Richardson stated the Commission was still working with
the Board of Commissioners regarding the Director's car. Standing
by at the request of Mr. Gabler. Mr. Reickel will be keeping car
until issue is resolved.
