Eric Reickel, Manager of the Parks and Recreation Commission and Joseph Figa, Chief of Design and Development for Parks and Recreation. 112 residents were in attendance. Chairman Wint stated the Commission had received letters from the City of Farmington and the City of Farmington Hills requesting a facility be developed in the southern portion of the County. Mr. Reickel explained that the representatives of Parks and Recreation were present to hear from the public in the audience and not there to defend or promote the facility. He requested input and direction as to whether or not the Parks and Recreation Commission should pursue acquisition of the Glen Oaks facility from the Moslem Temple. Mr. Reickel said the Commission was not interested in duplicating existing facilities in the area but complementing them. Chairman Wint asked for questions from the floor. Comments were made on various aspects regarding acquisition of the course, i.e., its impact upon the community, need for a facility in southern Oakland County, methods of financing, how the course would be secured and maintained, etc. Many of the residents placed favorable emphasis on the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission maintaining the property as open space versus private developers subdividing and building on the land. Bill Semanson, Illustrious Potentate of the Moslem Temple gave a brief history of the Temple and how a large portion of their money went for the treatment of hospitalized children. Commissioners Fortino, Walker and Wint concluded the hearing with closing remarks and thanked the residents for attending the meeting. The Hearing adjourned at 9:15 p.m. Betty Guest Recording Secretary j
