NORDIC SKI PATROL:
Ray Delasko, Supervisor, Independence Oaks, introduced Dan Stencil, Ass!t.
Supervisor and Assistant Patrol Director, who gave a short history of the
Nordic Ski Patrols Systems, Inc, an international organization of some 25,000
members. The Patrol at Independence Oaks has 25 members registered with the
NSPA, 13 of whom are from last year.
The Nordic Ski Patrol covers cross country skiing as opposed to Alpine Patrols
who supervise downhill skiing.
The patrol director, Gary Beesley, and Dan Stancil oversee the patrolling
on weekends of 16 km. of ski trails by these volunteers who must undergo a
rigorous training program that includes CPR, First Aid, Search and Rescue and
Winter Safety and Survival.
Because the numbers of skiers have increased dramatically in the last three
years, the patrol has initiated a number of things to attract and keep these
volunteers:
3 - 3
(Commission Meeting, January 9, 1980)
A dues reimbursement program (must patrol 30 hours to qualify)
A beverage allowance while on duty
An annual vehicle pass
An annual Ski Trip for members and family
A patch designed by William Boudreau
Mr. Kipke suggested a letter of appreciation be sent to Mr. Boudreau for
designing the ski patch and that he and Gary Beesley be invited to the Oakland
County Parks and Recreation Commission's 1980 Recognition Banquet.
MANAGER'S REPORT:
---Janet Pung reported on coverage by the media for the skiing events and also
on the distribution of the various brochures.
---A letter was received from the National Recreation and Park Association thanking
us for our efforts relative to the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
---Michigan Recreation and Park Association Conference, Detroit Plaza Hotel,

---January 27, Snow Rush (competetive race), Independence Oaks.
---Suggested an invitation to Recognition Banquet be sent to Tony Amico,
Oakland County Sheriff's Mounted Division, for the 257 volunteer hours his
division spent patrolling Independence Oaks.
Moved by Mr. Kuhn, supported by Dr. Montante to adjourn
the meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 11:04 a.m.
