Wint in the Parks and Recreation Commission Room. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Lewis Wint, Vice Chairman Don Deni, Secretary Carol Stanley, Jean Fox, George Kuhn, Pecky Lewis, Jr., Dr. Joseph Montante, Daniel Murphy, Richard Vogt. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Harold Cousins SO PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Department of Public Works Anthony M. Franco, Inc. Daily Tribune Photo Contest Winners APPROVAL OF MINUTES: R. Eric Reickel, Manager Jon J. Kipke, Assistant Manager Charles L. Ross, Chief, Admin. Services Sheila Cox, Accountant Kathy Allen, Public Communications Section Judy Evola, Public Communications Section Milton Handorf, Director Dorothy Langan, Account Executive John Basch, Reporter Leonard Brogdon, Jack Smith, Jim Johnson, Alicia Droste, Vicki Osborn, Bill Leonard Moved by Mr. Kuhn, supported by Mr. Deni to approve the minutes of the meeting of June 16, 1982 as written. Motion carried. SPRING PHOTO CONTEST: Chairman Wint welcomed the winners of the Spring Photo Contest to the meeting. Kathy Allen, Public Communications, introduced the winners in each category and Mr. Wint presented them with their prize money. The grand prize winner, Mike Arpin of Pontiac, was unable to be present at the meeting. Judges for the contest were representatives from the Detroit News, Oakland Press, Meteor Photo, Ross Roy Advertising Agency and the Automobile Club of Michigan. The photos will be on display at in the Courthouse lobby until July 30. The Commission recessed at 9:55 a.m. to take photographs and view the new lift for the handicapped on one of our buses. The meeting re -convened at 10:10 a.m. 3 - 1 (Commission Meeting, July 7, 1982) APPROVAL OF VOUCHERS: Moved by Mr. Kuhn, supported by Dr. Montante, to approve payment of Vouchers 6-153 through 6-400. ROLL CALL VOTE: AYES: Lewis, Montante, Murphy, Stanley, Wint, Deni, Fox, Kuhn (8) NAYS: (0) A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the motion carried. OPERATING STATEMENTS: Moved by Mr. Lewis, supported by Mr. Murphy to receive the Operating Statements as of May, 1982. Motion carried. ACTIVITIES REPORT: Moved by Mrs. Fox, supported by Mrs. Stanley to receive the Activities Report as of May, 1982. Motion carried. CROSBY LAKE - PROPOSED ACQUISITION: Mr. Reickel explained that Deitrich Baungart of Foley Lake Enterprises had offered 130.91 acres for sale in Springfield and White Lake Townships. The property is located west of Andersonville Road between Crosby Lake and White Lake Roads. It is approximately one-half mile from the new Indian Springs Metropark and only a few miles from Springfield Oaks County Park. Because of its close proximity to other recreation areas, staff did not recommend acquisition of the property. Moved by Dr. Montante, supported by Mr. Kuhn to concur with staff's recommendation and reject the proposal from Foley Lake Enterprises to acquire 130.91 acres in Springfield and White Lake Townships. MANAGER'S REPORT: ---Reported on the success of the Special Park Districts Forum co -hosted by Oakland and Genesee Counties. 3-2 (Commission Meeting, July 7, 1982) MANAGER'S REPORT (continued): ---Acknowledged letter received from the Kubota Tractor Corporation. Mr. Kipke explained that Purchasing was in the process of receiving quotations for a 35 hp. Ford tractor which is the smallest American tractor made and is assembled in Romeo, Michigan. The quotations will be available for the July 22 meeting. ---The BMX "Race for Life" on July 5 had some 200 riders and raised over $7,000 in pledges for the National Lukemia Society. ---The "Todd Kingsbury" race will be held September 18 and 19 with proceeds again going to the National Lukemia Society. Todd, who was a regular participant at the track, died of lukemia last year. ---The American Bicycle National Association Race will be held at Waterford Oaks August 28 and 29. ---The water slide will be featured on PM Magazine within the next week. ---Mr. Stencil discussed activities at the Waterford Oaks Court Complex. He said that most of the recreation departments had been contacted about the availa- bility of grant monies and visits for the mobile fleet are being scheduled. He said the program had been well -received. ---A puppet show demonstration will be conducted at the next Commission meeting. ---A note of appreciation was received from Commissioner Kuhn for the Commission's donation to the American Mothers Association as.a memorial to his mother who passed away recently. ---A note of appreciation was received from George Lekas for the Commission's donation to the Lukemia Foundation as a memorial to his mother who passed away recently. ---A "special sailing" of a Bob-lo trip for Michigan Parks and Recreation directors and commission/board members has been planned for July 12. Call Mr. Reickel if you plan on attending so he can request tickets. ---Urged Commission to attend the 4-H Fair which will held the first week in August at Springfield Oaks. ---Monica Walch, Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, has been appointed to the Handicap Non -Discrimination Task Force established by the Governing Board of the Oakland/Livington Human Services Agency. ---Received letter from the Events Coordinator of the Michigan Special Olympics in Mt.
