HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 1983.12.07 - 38739OAKLAND COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION PUBLIC HEARING ON 1984 BUDGET December 7, 1983 Chairman Lewis Wint opened the Public Hearing on the 1984 Budget at 9:25 a.m. in the Waterford Oaks Activities Center. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Lewis Wint, Vice Chairman Carol Stanley, Secretary Jean Fox, George Kuhn, Pecky Lewis, Jr., Daniel T. Murphy, Richard Wilcox. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Harold Cousins, John Gnau, Dr. Joseph Montante ALSO PRESENT: Parks and Recreation R. Eric Reickel, Manager Jon J. Kipke, Assistant Manager Charles Ross, Chief, Adminis. Services Janet Pung, Public Communications Officer- Joseph P. Franco Dorothy Langan, Sue Richardson Citizens Doug Brown, Bloomfield Hills; Robert Watson, Birmingham; Lee Luenberger, Pontiac: Jack Kimmerly, Lake Orion;.Billy Harris, Pontiac; Bob Hengel, Walled Lake; James Pennington, Union Lake; Ralph Jones Oakland Press Randall McIntosh, Reporter Daily Tribune John Basch, Reporter Chairman Wint welcomed the guests and told them he appreciated their attendance at the public hearing and extended an invitation to attend our regularly scheduled meetings. The gentlemen present each voiced their opposition to the Commission's rec;orrmended elimination in 1984 of prepaid annual memberships at the White Lake and Springfield Oaks Golf Course. J �.� � ,�e.ari ng ,il Eui��� Mr. Reickel stated that in providing prepaid annual memberships, he felt we were providing exclusive rights to a certain segment of the population and that everybody should have the opportunity to play at any time they choose. Mr. Thibodeau, Chief of Golf, said that in 1983, 157 prepaid family memberships were sold, 86 of which were senior citizens. Mr. Thibodeau and others of staff felt that the courses were sometimes monopolized by those holding the annual memberships. Reference was made to the one -quarter mill paid by the citizens for the Oakland County Parks. Mr. Wint noted that on a house valued at $100,000, $12 per year would go to the park system.
