HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 1984.03.07 - 38764PUBLIC HEARING ON 1984 LAND AND WATER PRE -APPLICATIONS March 7, 1984 The public hearing for 1984 Land and Water pre -applications was called to order by Vice-chairman Carol Stanley at 9:45 a.m. in the Parks and Recreation Commission's conference room. COMMISSION MEMBERS PRESENT: Vice-chairman Carol Stanley, Secretary Jean Fox, George Kuhn, Pecky Lewis, Jr., Walter Moore, Richard Vogt, Richard Wilcox. COMMISSION MEMBERS ABSENT: Chairman Lewis Wint, Harold Cousins, Daniel T.-Murphy. ALSO PRESENT: Parks and Recreation R. Eric Reickel, Manager Jon J. Kipke, Assistant Manager C, L. Dorothy Langan, Account Executive Sue Richardson Citizen George Schipper Mr. Figa said that the Department of Natural Resources had recently notified the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission that pre -applications to request matching Land and Water for projects should be forwarded to them by March 31, 1984. This is the first required review for these funds. If the pre -application is approved, a full application would be completed later in the year. Mr. Figa further stated that the projects had to be identified in the Recreation Master Plan and be accompanied with a resolution indicating the source of matching funds. The projects selected are: 1. The boat rental facility at Groveland Oaks. 2. Phase III Camping Development at Groveland Oaks 3. Phase II Camping Development at Addison Oaks 3A-1 (Public Hearing, March 7, 1984) A public hearing is also a requirement of the DNR to qualify for matching funds. Mr. Figa said that notice of the hearing had been advertised in several area newspapers and the respective township supervisors were notified. Mr. Figa explained the scope of each suggested project. The estimated cost for the boat rental facility at_Groveland Oaks totaled $240,000; $120,000 from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission and $120,000 from Land and Water. Estimated cost of Phase III Camping Development at Groveland Oaks totals $260,000; $130,000 from the Commission and $130,000 from Land and Water Estimated cost of Phase II Camping Development at Addison Oaks totals $484,800; $242,400 from the Commission and $242,400 from Land and Water. Mr. Reickel stated that these projects were planned for 1985 if the funding is approved. If it isn't approved, none of them will be accomplished. George Schipper, resident of the City of Pontiac and a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association addressed the Commission. He asked that they support administration's plans to expand our camping facilities and indicated his organization's support of our pa-[, system. Mr. Schipper recommended that the Commission establish the boathouse and the bridge as its number one priority in the Groveland development. Vice-chairman Stanley asked for any further comments or suggestions from the floor. Moved by Mr. Moore, supported by Mr. Lewis to close the public hearing. Motion carried.
