PUBLIC HEARING
February 6, 2002
The public hearing for the grant application and overall recreation master plan was called to order at 9:10
a.m. by Chairman Pecky D. Lewis, Jr. in the commission room of the Oakland County Parks and
Recreation Commission's administration office.

Chief of Design and Development Joe Figa noted that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources
requires an update of the Parks Commission's overall recreation master plan be completed and placed on
file every five years. This allows the Parks Commission to apply to the state for grants for park land
acquisition and facility development.
The plan is a compilation of county data, county -wide recreation resource inventories, demographics,
Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission park inventories, and a needs assessment with
recommendations for future park development.
No questions were asked by the public.
GRANT APPLICATION:
Chief of Design and Development Joe Figa noted that the Department of Natural Resources notified staff
that the deadline to submit applications to request matching Michigan Natural Resources Trust and Land
and Water Conservation funds for 2002 is April 1.

A public hearing is also a requirement of the DNR to qualify for funds. Notice of the hearing was advertised
in area newspapers.
The project staff selected is as follows:
Addison Oaks Acquisition
Staff presented the project, which will be submitted as a 60/40 matching grant through the Michigan
Natural Resources Trust Fund ($2,934,600 from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and
$1,956,400 from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission's funds). The total grant
application is in the amount of $4,891,000.
The proposed acquisition consists of 346.5 acres of former farmland, woods, and wetlands. The property
lies to the east of Addison Oaks, across Walker Road. The Krohn Drain runs from Lake Buhl at Addison
Oaks through the property. The property has road frontage on Walk and Romeo Roads, and has an
easement allowing access from Rochester Road.
This project is consistent with the goals adopted in the Recreation Master Plan.
No questions were asked; therefore, the public hearing was declared closed at 9:17 a.m.
