Proposed Amendment #1 to Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Parks Unit 2017/2018 Contract Manager of Parks and Recreation Operations Sue Wells provided the Commission with an update on the law enforcement patrol services for Oakland County Parks and Recreation that has been contracted with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office since 1990. The purpose of the contract is to provide our visitors with a safe and enjoyable experience with trained professional law enforcement personnel providing the patrol duties within the parks Oakland County Sheriff Office Lieutenant Kelly Sexton advised during this past year the Sheriff’s Office - Parks Unit has experienced a dramatic increase in operational demands. This workload has increased disproportionately to the current capabilities of the full-time staff. They have tried to mitigate this issue by attempting to fill the part-time positions with experienced retirees. This strategy has proven to be beneficial, but extremely difficult to do on any significant level as these individuals are rarely found. Their institutional knowledge has been the foundation of the successful day-to-day operations and their inevitable departure will create a crippling void. Consequently, the real and lasting solution is to add an additional full-time Deputy II Patrol Investigator position to the Parks Unit. Moved by Mr. McGillivray, supported by Mr. Baumhart to approve the Proposed 2017-2018 Contract for Sheriff Law Enforcement Services – Amendment #1 with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office for Law Enforcement Services with the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission in an amount we understand to be $109,134 which will be prorated for three-months in FY2018, $27,283. The final confirmed amount will be provided by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Oakland County Fiscal Services Department, and will be provided to the Commission at the July 11, 2018 OCPR Commission meeting. 17 OCPR Commission Meeting, June 25, 2018 Page 2 PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION FY 2018 BUDGET AMENDMENT PROPRIETARY / SPECIAL REVENUE FUNDS FY 2018 ACCOUNT NUMBER AMENDMENTS PROPRIETARY / SPECIAL REVENUE FUNDS - SELF BALANCING AMENDMENTS PARKS AND RECREATION FUND (#50800) Cost Center Dept ID Program Acct Account Name Revenues PUB 5060666 160666 665882 Planned Use of Balance $ 27,283 Total Revenues 27,283 Expenses ADM 5060101 160000 731689 Security Expense 27,283 Total Expenses $ 27,283 AYES: Baumhart, Crawford, Fisher, Kostin, McGillivray, Nash, VanderVeen (7) NAYS: (0) Motion carried on a unanimous voice vote.
