ITEM #7b
Purchase Aerial To o - Independence
It is requested that the Parks and Recreation Commission
authorize the purchase of an aerial topographical map from
Abrams Aerial Survey Corporation of Lansing, Michigan. The
estimated cost for this topo is $1,600.00.
The topo is needed for this park so we can have all the
information available for the consultants who will be doing
the Master Plan. This is the only park that we do not have
an aerial topo for.
ITEM #7c
Master Plan Contract - Independence
It is recommended that the firm of Ellis, Arndt & Truesdell, Inc.
of Flint, Michigan be contracted to do the Master Plan of the
Independence -Oaks County park which would include the general
layout drawings, schematic design studies and the final Master
Plan with illustrated report. A copy of the agreement will be
submitted at the Commission meeting with a price for these
services.
This firm was chosen on the basis of their familiarity of the
Parks and Recreation development activity that has been going
on in Oakland County. They are presently under contract with
the State's Department of Natural Resources to do the Seven
Lakes State Park that is in Oakland County and they are also
doing the Girl Scout Camp in Springfield Township. They are
very familiar with the Independence -Oaks park as one of the
staff members with this firm, Mr. Robert, Espeseth, reviewed
this property prior to acquisition.
I feel confident that the firm would do an excellent job in
developing a Master Plan for this park.
ITEM #7d
Master Plan Contract - Addison
It is recommended that the firm of Bills & Childs Associates
be retained to do the Master Plan for the Addison -Oaks County
park. The Master Plan will include the general layout drawings,
schematic design studies and the final Master Plan study with
illustrated report. This firm is also very familiar with
Oakland County and the parks within it. Bills and Childs
were both employed by the Huron -Clinton Metropolitan Authority
prior to going into business on their own which is located in
Oakland County.
It is felt that they will do an excellent job in analyzing
the Addison -Oaks Master Plan needs and that they will come up
with a fine final result.
ITEM #7e
Design Agreement - Springfield -Oaks Golf Course
It is recommended that the Parks and Recreation Commission
authorize a design agreement between the Commission and
Mark DeVries, Landscape Architect, specializing in golf
courses from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. DeVries comes
highly recommended from people that he has done golf courses
for in the pact.
I visited the Muskegon Municipal Golf Course with Byron
Montgomery, Greenskeeper from Springfield -Oaks, Mr.
DeVries and Mr. Don Smith, Director of Parks and Recreation
of Muskegon.
I sincerely feel that Mark DeVries is very capable and
competent golf course architect and recommend that his
services be retained.
