To the Members of the
OAKLAND COUNTY PARKS AND
RECREATION COMMISSION
2800 Watkins Lake Road
Pontiac, MI 48054
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Per Commission instructions at the meeting of May 6, 1987, Purchasing
received bids for the asphalt project at the four golf courses and two
day use parks ranging from $73,198 to $183,870.
Purchasing reviewed the bids and checked the references of the
low bidder, Al's Asphalt. They found that Al's has done an excellent
job; one example --one Royal Oak school has been using Al's Asphalt for
six years.
Funds were budgeted for this project in the amount of $74,000.
Therefore, staff has concurred with Purchasing's recommendation
and awarded the contract to Al's Asphalt in the amount of $73,198.
Attached is a list from Purchasing of the bid summary. Also included
is a list of where the asphalt will be placed in the parks; each park's
budget will be adjusted to reflect the cost.
Enc.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 858-0909.
Sincerely,
Ralph Richard, Manager
Oakland County Parks and
Recreation Commission

CAB FOR 510 LOADER
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Six years ago this department purchased a used rubber tire loader
for use within the system. Because of heavy use and a variety of drivers,
a number of repairs are needed to the cab. Broken windows, a bent door
post, sprung door, and damaged lights are a few of the items that should
be repaired.
The door and door post are part of the roll over protection (R.O.P.S.)
and could be difficult and expensive to repair. Staff researched the
separate costs for these repairs, and found it would be in excess of $4,000.00.
A new cab isn't normally available; however, as per the attached
letter from Wolverine Tractor and Equipment Company, another customer
prefers the loader without a cab, so they have it available. In view
of this, staff recommends the purchase of the complete cab from Wolverine
in the amount of $2,950.00.
Funds for this purchase will come from the Operating Equipment surplus
account.
