AQUATIC WEED HARVESTER
ADDISON OAKS
In 1987, Addison Oaks spent $6,000 to hire a contractor to harvest weeds
in Adams and Buhl Lakes at Addison Oaks because our ten-year old weed harvester
could not keep up with the weed growth.
Addison Oaks also spent $1,500 for chemicals to control weed growth. How-
ever, using chemicals leaves dead weed build-up on the bottom of the lake that
eventually requires dredging, which can cost $100,000 or more. Adams Lake was
dredged in 1970-71 by Tom Purves, Excavating.
Approximately 350 man hours are spent each year to remove weeds; one staff
person is used to cut weeds from mid -April to September, and two people are used
to load the weeds into a dump truck and haul away. Without a mechanical weed
harvester program, Adams and Buhl Lakes would not be usable for swimming, boating,
and fishing.

Dan Stencil, equipment mechanic Gerry Scarborough from Technical Support,
and staff from Addison Oaks evaluated each of the proposed weed harvesters and
have recommended the purchase of the new H5-200 Aquamarine Weed Harvester from
The Witbold Company for a purchase price of $33,500.00.
24-1
(Weed Harvester)
The Witbold Aquamarine model was far superior to the weed harvester produced
by Clearwater Weed Harvester Company. The Aquamarine harvester meets all OSHA
safety requirements and is built and equipped with superior equipment and workman-
ship.
There is $38,000.00 budgeted in the 1988 Operating Equipment Budget for this
purchase.
NOTE: This unit does not come with a trailer; the trailer is a separate
piece of equipment. Staff recommends the purchase of a TC-200 Aqua-
marine trailer/conveyer (factory new) for $12,250.00. This trailer
will transport the weed harvester and is used for storage, transport
and unloading of the harvested weeds. If funds are available in the
1988 Operating Equipment Budget Surplus, staff recommends purchase
of this trailer/conveyer unit later in the budget year.

Aquatic Plant Harvesters and dispose of aquatic plants are
designed by its own engineering staff, are made in its own
licensed trailer manufacturing facility and are specifically suited
to the Harvesters they carry.
The Trailer Conveyor range comprises:
Model TC-100 for Model H4-100 Aquatic Plant Harvester
Model TC-200 for Model H5-200 Aquatic Plant Harvester
Model TC-400 for Model H7-400 Aquatic Plant Harvester
Model TC-800 for Model H10-800 Aquatic Plant Harvester
Trailer Conveyors operate as transport trailers for Harvesters
and as dump trucks for the disposal of aquatic plant material.
They increase the scope of the Harvesters and provide an
inexpensive solution to disposal problems when used with a
suitable towing truck.
Dealer:
As well as having all standard trailer features, Trailer
Conveyors are equipped with bi-directional, self-contained,
hydraulically actuated loading and unloading systems which are
powered by gasoline engines and are equipped with side boards
for load containment and front and rear removable gates. The
rear gate also provides an interlock with the Harvester when
unloading.
