ITEM CATEGORY SPONSORED BY Gift/Donation Yolanda Smith Charles INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND The Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner is proposing that an AA100 AutoAnalyzer metals testing machine be donated to Oakland Community College. The AA100 AutoAnalyzer was purchased more than two decades ago by Oakland County for use at the Walled-Lake Novi Wastewater Treatment Plant. Due to changes in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, which removed the requirement of testing many of the metals with the AA100 AutoAnalyzer, it has not been used since 2017. While there is no need for this metals testing equipment at the plant or any other Oakland County facility, Oakland Community College would welcome this equipment to enhance the opportunities available to students pursuing careers in wastewater, water, and chemistry. Oakland County and the Water Resources Commissioner have been instrumental in promoting water-related careers in the community, and donation of this surplus equipment would further this commitment to support water-related careers. The proposed resolution requests approval of the donation pursuant to Miscellaneous Resolution #99059, which was adopted by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners in 1999 to address disposal of County-owned assets that have been rendered surplus. Donation of the metals testing equipment to Oakland Community College advances the County’s surplus assets disposal policy and provides a sustaining benefit to the County by investing in the future through education in our community. Requested Committee Action: Recommend adoption of the resolution as presented. Contact: Meg Koss kossm@oakgov.com 248-496-5587 Mary Koeger koegerm@oakgov.com 248- 534-3717 Due to a change in state-mandated testing procedures, certain testing equipment previously used by the Water Resources Commissioner’s staff is no longer needed and is now surplus property. Board of Commissioners’ approval is sought to permit the donation of this equipment, in accordance with Oakland County’s policy, to Oakland Community College for educational purposes in courses associated with water and wastewater.
