Motion to accept the Public Safety Academy Assistance Program funding in the amount of $96,000
from the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and authorize the Chair of the
Board of Commissioners to execute the grant agreement; further, amend the FY 2023 budget as
detailed in the attached Schedule A.

INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $96,000 from the State of Michigan, Michigan
Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) for employed recruits to attend a basic
training academy that began August 2023. Funding for the MCOLES Public Safety Academy
Assistance Program is available until September 30, 2026 or until funds are exhausted. The funding
being paid directly to Oakland County covers $24,000 per recruit for salary and fringe benefits as
well as the cost of their academy costs.
POLICY ANALYSIS
Acceptance of this grant does not obligate the County to any future commitment and continuation of
this program is contingent upon continued future levels of grant funding.
