INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Ms. Broad is a recognized leader in Economic Development, serving as the interim director and
traveling extensively as the manager of Domestic and International Attraction for the department
since April of 2021. She also was an International Business Advisor, manager and director of
International Trade for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for 10 years where she
traveled the world to help attract business to the state. Her breadth and depth of experience in
international trade policy and investment were honed during 25 years at General Motors, including
15 years as the Director of International Trade Policy.
That experience in addition to extensive managerial skills helped her emerge as the top candidate
to lead Oakland County’s Economic Development Department.

Dear Commissioners,
I am pleased to announce my nomination of Jeanne Dangerfield Broad as Oakland County’s Economic
Development Director.
Ms. Broad is a recognized leader in Economic Development, serving as the interim director and traveling
extensively as the manager of Domestic and International Attraction for the department since April of 2021.
She also was an International Business Advisor, manager and director of International Trade for the Michigan
Economic Development Corporation for 10 years where she traveled the world to help attract business to the
state.
Her breadth and depth of experience in international trade policy and investment were honed during 25 years at
General Motors, including 15 years as the Director of International Trade Policy.
That experience in addition to extensive managerial skills helped her emerge as the top candidate to lead
Oakland County’s Economic Development Department.
Ms. Broad’s wide array of knowledge and talent in both the public and private sector will serve Oakland County
well as she takes on this new role.

JEANNE DANGERFIELD BROAD
EXPERIENCE
Oakland County Economic Development, Waterford Township, MI:
• Interim Director, Economic Development (4/23-Present). Lead Oakland
County’s Business Development, Community Development, Workforce
Development, Veterans Services and Transit Divisions in promoting an inclusive
and thriving economy for the County. Focus is on collaboration, building
partnerships, and finding new and expanded ways to promote the County and
engage with and support the County’s businesses and communities.
• Manager, Domestic & International Attraction (4/2021-4/2023). Oversee a
team responsible for attracting domestic and foreign direct investment to Oakland
County. Approach involves marketing the county’s assets and potential to
international and domestic audiences through virtual and in-person events and
building relationships to keep the county top of mind for investment decisions.
Coordinate closely with partners to target opportunities -- especially in the areas
of automotive/mobility, advanced manufacturing, defense, and aerospace.
Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Lansing MI:
• International Business Advisor, Strategic Initiatives (6/2018-4/2021). Promote
MEDC business development objectives by working to build strategic partnerships
with foreign governments, industry associations, and domestic and international
site selectors. Responsible for hosting international delegations and organizing and
supporting events to promote collaboration with and investment and interest in the
State of Michigan. Also work proactively to provide relevant intelligence on trade
policies and global trends to support the broader Business Development team.
• Director, International Trade (9/2015-12/2016). Responsible for program
design, budget development, and oversight of the MEDC International Trade
Program, including managing a staff of nine, six foreign offices, eight service
contractors, and a $900,000 government contract. In this capacity supported the
organization of events and missions to promote Michigan exports and attract
investment to Michigan. Team was honored with the President’s Award for Export
Service in June 2017.
• Director, International Trade Management (9/2014-9/2015). Responsible for
planning and managing the MEDC International Trade Program’s export
development activities, including Michigan events, international missions, and
overseeing seven international trade development managers. Represented the
International Trade Program externally, with public presentations and in
international delegations with Michigan’s Governor and Lt. Governor.
• International Trade Development Manager (11/2011-8/2014 and 12/2016-
5/2018). Served as an international trade manager providing direct counselling to
Michigan businesses. Organized and led multi-sector and industry-focused
international missions to fifteen countries and initiated programs to grow Michigan
defense exports.
