AGENDA ITEM: 2024 Equalization Report DEPARTMENT: Equalization MEETING: Board of Commissioners DATE: Wednesday, April 24, 2024 6:00 PM - Click to View Agenda ITEM SUMMARY SHEET COMMITTEE REPORT TO BOARD Resolution #2024-22 Motion to approve the 2024 Equalization Report along with the tabular statement as prepared by the Equalization Director and authorize the Board Chair to certify the tabular statement with transmission of the statement to the Secretary of the State Tax Commission on or before the first Monday, May 6, 2024; further, that the 2024 Equalization Report be entered into the County records and delivered to the appropriate officials of the proper townships or cities. ITEM CATEGORY SPONSORED BY Report Gwen Markham INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Pursuant to MCL 211.34, the Board of Commissioners shall examine the assessment rolls of the townships or cities and ascertain whether the real and personal property in the respective townships or cities has been equally and uniformly assessed at true cash value. The Board of Commissioners shall meet in April each year to determine county equalized value which equalization shall be completed and submitted along with the tabular statement required by section 5 of Act No. 44 of the Public Acts of 1911, being section 209.5 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, to the state tax commission before the first Monday in May. The Oakland County Equalization Division of the Management and Budget Department, having completed their assessment of the equalized value and recommends the total 2024 Equalized Value at $106,649,985,614 an 9.17% increase from 2023. The resulting Taxable value for Oakland County is $80,356,053,875 a 7.31% increase from 2023. The Finance Committee in accordance with Rule XI.A (7) of the Board of Commissioners adopted on January 12, 2023, has reviewed the findings and recommendations of the Equalization Director, and conducted hearings to provide for local intervention into the equalization process. The Equalization Factors listed on the attached report is the result of the forgoing process and are for information purposes only.
