ITEM CATEGORY SPONSORED BY Special Project Penny Luebs INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND Summary of proposed project. The proposed project aims to support and enhance educational and hands-on programming at the Blair Memorial Library in Clawson, Michigan. Through a variety of engaging programs such as story hours, chapter chats, LEGO sessions, creature features, writing groups, and chair yoga for all ages, the project seeks to enrich the community's access to resources and learning opportunities. Highlighting the project is the 3rd Annual Blair Bazaar event, sponsored by the Friends of the Blair Memorial Library, scheduled for June 2024. This event will showcase crafty vendors offering a diverse range of products, including photography, plants, jewelry, home decor, and more, thereby fostering community engagement and showcasing the library's programs and services. The project endeavors to benefit the entire community, promoting lifelong learning, community building, and access to free educational resources throughout the year. This would be a wonderful opportunity to begin a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Blair Memorial Library. This nationwide initiative encourages reading to newborns, toddlers, and preschoolers to foster a love of books and prepare them for school.Studies show that families that start reading aloud to their children at birth help strengthen their language skills, build their vocabulary, and increase fluency. Providing opportunities to learn and develop reading skills, connect caregivers and children, and discover new books are all long-standing goals of the library. This program would help families foster a love for reading in their young children by promoting daily reading habits along with special bonding time for the child and caregiver. Costs would include early literacy incentives, printing of program materials such as reading logs and tip sheets, early literacy programs, and prizes for meeting reading goals. https://1000booksbeforekindergarten.org/1000-books-before-kindergarten-program/ What is the estimated cost of this project? $10,000 Are there any possible funding partners or matching funds available?
