INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
The Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center is the beneficiary of a generous cash
gift from United Charitable – The Belco Family Foundation given in memory of Tatum Eidson in the
amount of $10,000.00. Ms. Eidson was an employee of the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet
Adoption Center from May 2016 until July 2020. Tatum sadly took her own life July 21, 2020.
Tatum was a talented artist and loved animals. Which is why after her passing her mother, Melissa,
choose to have the Shelter as beneficiary to any donations at her funeral. Since then, Melissa
created a pet adoption, pet blessing and suicide awareness event held on July 22, 2023, at the First
Congregational Church of Royal Oak. It was a huge success, and this year will be the second
annual event on July 20th. Mike Belco (The Belco Family Foundation) is a dear friend of Melissa
Eidson and wanted to provide for the animals here at the Shelter. The animals that Tatum deeply
loved and cared for.
