Democratic Caucus Minutes
June 13, 2024 at 8:30 AM
1. Call Meeting to Order
The Chair called the meeting of the Democratic Caucus to order at 8:35 AM in Committee
Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, 12E, Pontiac, MI 48341.
2. Roll Call
MEMBERS PRESENT: David Woodward, Penny Luebs, Gwen Markham, Angela Powell,
Marcia Gershenson, Brendan Johnson, Charles Cavell, Yolanda Smith Charles, William
Miller III, Ajay Raman, Ann Erickson Gault, Linnie Taylor (12)
MEMBERS ABSENT WITH NOTICE: Kristen Nelson (1)
3. Public Comment
No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment #1.
4. Approval of Minutes
a. Board of Commissioners - dated May 22, 2024
William Miller moved approval of the Minutes dated May 22, 2024, as
presented. Seconded by Linnie Taylor.
Motion Passed.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the Minutes dated May 22, 2024, were
approved, as presented.
5. Discussion Items
Marcia Gershenson addressed the Caucus regarding Legislative Affairs and Government
Operation Committee item entitled: Board of Commissioners - Oakland County Land Bank
Authority Appointment.
Discussion followed.
Penny Luebs addressed the Caucus regarding the Public Health and Safety Committee
item entitled: 52-2 District Court (Clarkston) - Approval of the Appointment of a District
Court Magistrate - Richard G. Strenger.
Discussion followed.
David Woodward addressed the Caucus regarding Presentation - State of the Circuit
Court Address. He stated the presentation was pushed back due to the Circuit Court
schedule.
David Woodward introduced Tony Raffa, Director, SAVI.
Tony Raffa, Director, SAVI, addressed the Caucus regarding a Student Loan Relief
program for residents of Oakland County.
Discussion followed.
William Miller addressed the Caucus regarding the success of the Skate Park Project and
spoke in support of transit bills HB 5768 - 5770.
Gwen Markham addressed the Caucus to remind everyone that the Oakland County
Historical Society will be holding an Ice Cream Social on July 28, 2024, from 1 PM to 4
PM. It is being held on the lawn of Wisner Historic House.
Angela Powell addressed the Caucus to review the Caucus Memo of announcements.
She also stated the Commissioners will be meeting with the Executive Office for updates
on the move to the Pontiac Project building. She also read a postcard from former
Commissioner Chuck Moss.
6. Public Comment
No one addressed the Caucus during Public Comment #2.
7. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 11:37 AM.
