Project Overview: Novi Co-Op Preschool, housed in the Novi United Methodist Church building, is
a non-profit, non-denominational preschool owned and managed by parents. The preschool and the
church are not affiliated. The City of Novi has required the church to install a fence for the children
to play safely at the Novi Co-Op Preschool. The school operates on cooperative principles,
engaging parents in the educational process and the operation of the school.
Project Type: Program
Provide a proposed budget breakdown for the project: The total cost to purchase and install the
fence will be $13,000.00.
Provide a detailed timeline for implementation of the project: The project is expected to be
implemented within 1-2 weeks after the section of a contractor.
Provide details on any possible funding partners or matching funds: Novi Co-Op Preschool
will provide in-kind donations through staff time dedicated to working with the vendor and the city for
the administration of the project. Novi United Methodist Church is providing the space for the non-
profit to offer child care services. The City of Novi's Planning Commission has supported this project
with the approval of a preliminary site plan with variances that includes the fence.
Describe the anticipated impact of the project and how its success will be evaluated: The
installation of the fence will ensure a safe play area for children at the Novi Co-Op Preschool. The
co-op model benefits the community by engaging parents in the educational process, allowing them
to actively participate in their children's learning and the operation of the school. Success will be
evaluated through the continued safe operation of the preschool, the satisfaction of participating
families, and the ongoing compliance with city regulations. Additionally, the project will strengthen
the relationship between the church and the preschool, supporting the broader community.
Affordable childcare is vital for communities like Novi, where families often juggle work and family
responsibilities. By providing accessible and affordable childcare, the Novi Co-Op Preschool
enables parents to participate in the workforce, pursue educational opportunities, and contribute to
the local economy. This, in turn, strengthens the community by creating a more stable and engaged
population. Children benefit from a supportive and enriching environment that lays a strong
foundation for their future education and social development. Affordable childcare also helps to
reduce inequality, providing all families with the opportunity to give their children a quality start in
life, regardless of income.
Include any additional information or supporting documents relevant to the project:
