to reappoint the following: Yvette Woodruff, as Working Involvement in Mental Health Services;
Malkia Newman, as Primary Consumer; and John Young, as Secondary Consumer, to the Oakland
County Health Network for a three-year term beginning April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2028.

x Malkia Newman is one of the co-founders and Team Supervisor for CNS Healthcare’s (CNS)
Anti-Stigma Program where she oversees the Peer-Led Anti-Stigma Community Education
Program. Her responsibilities include training staff and leading the team in developing
presentations that are educational as well as highly entertaining.
x The CNS Anti-Stigma Program team members have traveled around the country sharing their
unique style of community education. They have reached over 150,000 people from coast to
coast and as far away as Nova Scotia, Canada, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
x Malkia also serves as the Co-Chairperson of the CNS Cultural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Committee where she has been active in leading the company’s efforts to ensure that all the
stakeholders, internal as well as external customers, feel welcome and a part of the dynamic first-
class Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, (CCBHC) that CNS has become.
x Her community service also includes her appointment to the Oakland Community Health Network
Board of Directors, (formerly the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority), in 2007,
where she continues to serve as a Consumer Representative. She has served several terms as
the Vice Chair, and she has also served 2 ½ terms as the Board Chair. Malkia is one of 5
persons with living experience in the state of Michigan who has had the privilege of holding this
very important position.
x She was appointed by Gov. Snyder to sit on the Behavioral Health Advisory Council to the
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in 2016, she is serving her 1st term as
Council Chair. She’s also on the Board of Disability Rights of Michigan.
x In 2022 Malkia was chosen to work alongside staff from the National Council on Mental Wellness
on the Living Experience Advisory Council project. It has been a tremendous honor to work with
so many knowledgeable, and passionate Peers from around the county.
x Malkia’s greatest cheerleaders are her daughter Tracie and son-in-love Femi, and her 2
grandchildren, Kiyah and Gregory who continue to bring great joy to her life.

Mental Health system. I have been a resource to other families to help them
navigate the maze of getting services. I have been and am currently active as a
volunteer with a number of special needs organizations including Dutton Farm
and AAoM. In my role at the university I interact and support mental health
activities including OUCARES.
