Motion to approve the one-time allotment of $5,000 from the Fiscal Year 2025 Board of
Commissioners General Fund Sponsorship line-item budget for the purpose of sponsoring the 5th
Annual Madison Heights Juneteenth Festival; further, approve and authorize the Board Chair to
execute any required agreements on behalf of Oakland County. Additionally, require that the
recipient of the funds promote the County and provide an impact report to the Board detailing the
sponsorship outcomes, including the number of residents served.

Project Overview: The 2025 Madison Heights Juneteenth Celebration, hosted by Madison Heights
Citizens United (MHCU), is the fifth annual festival held at Civic Center Park on June 14, 2025. The
event will feature live entertainment, educational exhibits, speakers, food trucks, vendors, and fun
activities for kids. The festival aims to promote racial reconciliation and foster a greater
understanding of shared history through a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. The event
attracts visitors from across Oakland County and the Metro Detroit Area.

Proposed Budget Breakdown: Overall Projected Budget: $40,000; requested Contribution from
BOC: $5,000; other anticipated funding sources: Sponsorships from corporate and community
organizations, including Oakland County Board of Commissioners, Henkel, Puff, Liberty, United
Wholesale Mortgage, Consumers Energy, Molina Healthcare, National Heritage Academies,
McDonald’s, Target, The Reserve, New Standard, Midigitel, DTE, Sheetz, Quality Roots, and
Meijer. MHCU is actively working to secure additional sponsors.

Detail on Possible Funding Partners or Matching Funds: MHCU has secured sponsorships from
numerous organizations in past years and is actively working to renew and expand sponsorship
commitments for 2025. These partnerships help ensure the sustainability and collective impact of
the event. MHCU actively seeks additional sponsorship from various organizations and individuals.
Past sponsors include Meijer, Target, Molina Healthcare, and National Heritage Academies. 2024
sponsors include Henkel, Puff, Liberty, United Wholesale Mortgage Consumers Energy, Molina
Healthcare, National Heritage Academies, Mascdolad's, Target, and Books by Bowman.
Anticipated Impact of the Project and Evaluation: The 5th Annual Juneteenth Festival will benefit
the people of Madison Heights and surrounding communities by providing a platform to celebrate
freedom and promote racial equality in an inclusive and educational environment. The event serves
as a cultural and educational opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth and promote inclusivity. The
festival is free to all Oakland County residents and provides entertainment, education, and
community engagement. Oakland County will have a presence at the event with exhibit booth space
for outreach. Success will be evaluated based on attendance, participant engagement, community
feedback, and continued growth of sponsorship support.
Additional Information or Supporting Documents: Madison Heights Citizens United (MHCU) is a
Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN 85-3813454. All donations are deemed tax-
deductible. The festival will feature various educational exhibits, speakers, entertainment, food
trucks, vendor booths, and fun activities for kids. Oakland County Parks will provide recreational
opportunities, including a Climbing Tower. Commissioner Erickson Gault is not involved in the
