Project Overview: The Lyon Township DDA Volunteer Appreciation Event is a community-centered
gathering intended to recognize the significant contributions of volunteers who collectively dedicated
over 1,100 hours of service in 2024. Hosted during the existing "Music on the Grand" concert event
on August 6, 2025, this initiative offers a free evening of live entertainment to the general public
while specifically celebrating the efforts of 50 to 75 local volunteers. In addition to the concert,
volunteers will receive a complimentary meal and a small appreciation gift. To enhance the
community atmosphere, additional entertainment features such as inflatable games, face painting,
and picnic-style activities will be included. The event not only fosters civic pride and community
cohesion but also supports economic activity in Lyon Township’s downtown area by drawing foot
traffic to local businesses.
Project Type: Program Sponsorship. The project provides financial support for an initiative with
specific scope deliverables that benefit the residents of Oakland County through improved
environmental awareness and water resource management.
Proposed Budget Breakdown: The total anticipated cost for this event is approximately $6,381. This
budget includes expenses associated with food for volunteers, entertainment enhancements (such
as inflatables and games), small appreciation gifts for recognized volunteers, and other logistical
needs for hosting the concert. The amount requested from the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners is intended to help offset a portion of these costs and acknowledge the public
service provided by local volunteers.
Detailed Timeline for Implementation: Planning for the event is already in progress. The project will
culminate with the concert and recognition ceremony scheduled for August 6, 2025, running from
6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. All logistical coordination, vendor procurement, sponsorship engagement, and
promotional work will be finalized in advance of the event. Completion of the project will occur at the
close of the event on that date.
Detail on Possible Funding Partners or Matching Funds: The Lyon Township DDA is actively
seeking additional sponsorships from local businesses and community organizations to help
underwrite the event. In previous years, similar events received a RAPP Grant from Oakland County
Parks and Recreation to fund inflatables. Continued in-kind support is anticipated from local
churches and law enforcement, including the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, which assists
with traffic control. While specific dollar-for-dollar matching funds have not been confirmed at this
time, strong community partnerships enhance the financial sustainability of the event.
Anticipated Impact of the Project and Evaluation: This event is expected to attract between 400 and
500 attendees from the surrounding community, providing an evening of free entertainment and
public appreciation for dedicated volunteers. The impact of the project will be assessed through
qualitative feedback from participants and quantitative tracking of event turnout. Specific metrics
include the number of volunteers honored, the volume of community engagement, participation from
local businesses, and feedback from community partners. Success will be further measured by the
visibility and acknowledgment of the County’s contribution through signage, printed materials, and
social media recognition during the event.
Additional Information or Supporting Documents: A report summarizing outcomes and community
engagement from the 2024 event has been submitted previously. If that documentation cannot be
located, the Lyon Township DDA Director is available to resend it upon request. Promotional
materials for the 2025 event will continue to include acknowledgment of the Oakland County Board
of Commissioners’ support, and the Commissioner sponsor will be publicly recognized during the
event. Collaboration with Oakland County Parks and other agencies further amplifies the County’s
presence in the project.
FISCAL IMPACT: No Budget Amendment Needed
