INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
1. First and Last Name (Person Submitting the Form): Emily England
2. Organization (Person Submitting the Form): Charter Township of Commerce
3. Email Address (Person Submitting the Form): parks@commercetwp.com
4. Phone Number (Person Submitting the Form): 248-926-0063
5. Last Name of Sponsoring Commissioner: Long
6. Project Overview: The proposed project is titled Concert in the Park and consists of a series of
five outdoor concerts held on consecutive Friday evenings, beginning the first Friday in July and
concluding on the first Friday in August. This free event is designed to create a welcoming and
festive environment that promotes community engagement, entertainment, and social connection for
residents of all ages. The concerts take place in a local park and are curated to feature a variety of
musical performances to appeal to diverse audiences within the Township and the surrounding
region.
7. Project Type: Sponsorship of an Event
8. Provide a proposed budget breakdown for the project, including but not limited to the estimated
cost of the overall project, and specifically how much you are asking the Board of Commissioners
(BOC) to contribute: The total estimated cost for the Concert in the Park series is $25,000.
Commerce Township has committed to funding this event through its general fund. To expand the
County’s support for enriching, accessible community events, a contribution from the Board of
Commissioners in the amount of $5,000 is being requested. This amount would help offset costs
related to artist fees, sound equipment, logistics, and promotional materials, while still
demonstrating shared investment and partnership between Oakland County and the local
municipality.
9. Provide a detailed timeline for implementation of the project: The concert series will begin on
Friday, July 4th, 2025, and will continue each Friday evening through August 1st, 2025. Planning
and logistical coordination—including artist bookings, vendor arrangements, and community
outreach—are already underway under the direction of the Parks Department.
10. Provide detail on any possible funding partners or matching funds: Commerce Township has
allocated funding from its general fund to fully cover the base cost of the project. The Township’s
financial commitment ensures the project will take place regardless of external contributions.
However, the request for support from Oakland County is intended to enhance the scope and
visibility of the event through expanded promotional efforts and potential upgrades to performance
equipment or staging.
11. Describe the anticipated impact of the project and how its success will be evaluated: The
Concert in the Park series is expected to serve hundreds of residents across Commerce Township
and nearby communities over the course of its five-week duration. It is designed to foster a sense of
belonging, encourage local tourism and economic activity, and provide accessible, family-friendly
entertainment. Attendance figures, resident feedback, and qualitative observations by Township
staff and community volunteers will serve as the primary evaluation tools to assess the success and
community impact of the program. A report detailing attendance numbers and community response
will be submitted to the Board of Commissioners as part of the post-event evaluation, in accordance
with the reporting requirements outlined in the Special Projects policy.
12. Include any additional information or supporting documents relevant to the project: The project is
overseen by Emily England, the Township’s Parks Director, who has experience managing this
annual event. No assistance from Oakland County departments or outside agencies is required for
implementation. The event aligns with the goals and authority of the Board of Commissioners to
support accessible, community-centered programming that directly benefits County residents. A
formal event flyer and concert lineup will be available closer to the event start date and can be
provided upon request.
FISCAL IMPACT: No Budget Amendment Needed
