ITEM CATEGORY SPONSORED BY Special Project Yolanda Smith Charles INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND 1. First and Last Name (Person Submitting the Form): Lauren Beras 2. Organization (Person Submitting the Form): Lathrup Village Music Festival Planning Committee / Lathrup Village Downtown Development Authority (DDA) 3. Email Address (Person Submitting the Form): lvmfest@gmail.com 4. Phone Number (Person Submitting the Form): (248) 557-2600 5. Last Name of Sponsoring Commissioner: Smith Charles 6. Project Overview: The Lathrup Village Music Festival (LVMF) is an inclusive, community-centered event now entering its third year. Originally conceived as a grassroots initiative to reunite residents in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival has grown into a cherished local tradition through strong community support and a collaborative partnership with the Lathrup Village Downtown Development Authority. The 2025 festival will expand upon previous years by introducing a new family fun area and increasing the presence of local vendors and musical performances that reflect the city’s diversity. The event features live music, food trucks, business booths, and accessible amenities for attendees of all ages and abilities, making it a celebration of local pride and connection. LVMF is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, with a rain date of September 14. 7. Project Type: Sponsorship of an Event 8. Provide a proposed budget breakdown for the project, including but not limited to the estimated cost of the overall project, and specifically how much you are asking the Board of Commissioners (BOC) to contribute: The total projected cost for the 2025 Lathrup Village Music Festival is $30,000. To date, the planning team has secured or received verbal commitments for $18,000 from community sponsors and partners. The request to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners is for a contribution of $5,000, which would help bridge the funding gap and enable expanded offerings—particularly in support of the new family fun area, ADA-compliant accommodations, and promotional materials. The County’s support would help ensure the festival remains free, welcoming, and high-quality for attendees, while also reinforcing the County’s commitment to inclusive community engagement and economic vitality in its local municipalities. 9. Provide a detailed timeline for implementation of the project: Planning for the 2025 festival is already underway and will continue throughout the spring and summer. Sponsorship outreach, vendor recruitment, musical bookings, logistics coordination, and marketing efforts are being managed by the committee in partnership with the DDA. The festival itself will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, September 14, 2025. 10. Provide detail on any possible funding partners or matching funds: The Lathrup Village Music Festival is a heavily community-backed initiative, supported by numerous local sponsors, vendors, and in-kind contributors. As of this submission, approximately $18,000 of the $30,000 budget has been secured through these efforts. While this request to the County is not contingent on a matching grant, it will complement existing community support and expand the overall impact of the event. 11. Describe the anticipated impact of the project and how its success will be evaluated: The LVMF is expected to serve hundreds of residents and attract visitors from across the region. It provides tangible benefits to local artists, entrepreneurs, and food vendors, while also enhancing public awareness of Lathrup Village’s unique cultural identity. The event fosters cross-cultural understanding, community pride, and economic activity through inclusive programming and diverse musical performances. The success of the festival will be assessed through attendee feedback, business engagement metrics, vendor satisfaction, and volunteer participation. The planning committee is committed to providing a post-event report documenting outcomes and community impact. 12. Include any additional information or supporting documents relevant to the project: Lauren Beras, the submitting resident, plays a leading role in planning and coordinating the event. She currently serves as the sole resident member of the festival’s planning committee and works closely with the Lathrup Village DDA on every element of execution—from securing vendors and booking bands to managing promotional materials and organizing volunteers. While the LVMF remains a collaborative effort, Lauren’s dedication and coordination efforts have helped the festival grow into a signature event for the city. No additional assistance is required from Oakland County departments. This project clearly falls within the scope of the Board’s authority, offering public benefit and civic value to Oakland County residents.
