INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
1. First and Last Name (Person Submitting the Form): Fernando Monge
2. Organization (Person Submitting the Form): Hazel Park Promise Scholarship Program
3. Email Address (Person Submitting the Form): fernando.monge@myhpsd.org
4. Phone Number (Person Submitting the Form):(248)-658-5183
5. Last Name of Sponsoring Commissioner: Commissioner Erickson Gault
6. Project Overview: Briefly describe the proposed project, including its purpose, goals, and
intended outcomes: The Hazel Park Promise Zone Fundraiser Dinner is a benefit event supporting
the Hazel Park Promise Scholarship Program, which guarantees a tuition-free pathway to an
associate degree or its equivalent for graduates of Hazel Park Schools who reside within the school
district. The purpose of the event is to raise funds and awareness for the scholarship program,
which removes financial barriers to higher education while pairing students with mentoring support.
The intended outcome of the project is to increase postsecondary access, promote educational
attainment, and strengthen long-term economic opportunity for Hazel Park students.
7. Project Type: Please select the type of Special Project Request? This request should be
categorized as a sponsorship, as it involves County support for a fundraising event benefiting an
established educational scholarship program.
8. Provide a proposed budget breakdown for the project, including but not limited to the estimated
cost of the overall project, and specifically how much you are asking the Board of Commission
(BOC) to contribute: The Hazel Park Promise Zone Fundraiser Dinner is supported through
donations and sponsorships from multiple organizations and companies. Commissioner Erickson
Gault is requesting a $5,000 sponsorship from the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. A
sponsorship at this level directly funds one year of tuition at Oakland Community College for one
Hazel Park graduate and provides one year of mentoring support for six Hazel Park high school
students.
9. Provide a detailed timeline for implementation of the project: The fundraiser dinner is scheduled
to take place on March 3, 2026. Funds raised through the event will be applied to the ongoing
operations of the Hazel Park Promise Scholarship Program, which provides continuous scholarship
and mentoring support to eligible students.
10. Provide detail on any possible funding partners or matching funds: The Hazel Park Promise
Scholarship Program actively solicits and receives financial support from multiple organizations,
businesses, and community partners. The requested County sponsorship would be one of several
contributions supporting the scholarship program and would leverage broader community
investment.
11. Describe the anticipated impact of the project and how its success will be evaluated: The
anticipated impact of the project is increased access to postsecondary education for Hazel Park
graduates and enhanced mentoring support for current high school students. Success will be
evaluated by the number of students receiving tuition assistance, the continuation of mentoring
services, and the overall sustainability of the Hazel Park Promise Scholarship Program in expanding
educational opportunity within the community.
12. Include any additional information or supporting documents relevant to the project: The Hazel
Park Promise Scholarship Program is an ongoing initiative focused on reducing financial barriers to
higher education and supporting student success beyond high school. Commissioner Erickson
Gault has indicated that while she is not directly involved in the administration of the program, she
intends to attend the fundraiser dinner in support of the initiative.
