RESOLUTION #2026-6252 _ 26-5
Sponsored By: Brendan Johnson
Board of Commissioners - Resolution in Support of Michigan Senate Bills 508, 509 and 510
Chair and Members of the Board:
WHEREAS the Michigan Legislature introduced Senate Bills 508, 509, and 510 to enhance public
safety, transparency, accountability, and civil liberties with respect to immigration enforcement in the
State of Michigan; and
WHEREAS testimony and analysis from community advocates and policy organizations indicate
these bills would support the safety and dignity of immigrant and refugee communities in Michigan,
maintain access to essential services, and help protect families from fear or trauma associated with
enforcement actions in sensitive community spaces; and
WHEREAS Senate Bill 508 would restrict certain immigration enforcement actions in designated
sensitive locations, such as educational institutions, places of worship, hospitals, courthouses, and
organizations assisting vulnerable populations, except with a judicial warrant or when necessary to
address imminent public safety threats; and such protections can help ensure individuals can access
critical public services without fear of enforcement action on site; and
WHEREAS Senate Bill 509 would prohibit government entities from disclosing personal identifying
information for purposes of federal immigration enforcement without a court-issued warrant, thus
protecting the privacy rights of residents and encouraging trust in public institutions; and
WHEREAS Senate Bill 510 would require law enforcement officers to wear identifiable uniforms and
prohibit masks or personal disguises while interacting with the public in the performance of their
duties, subject to narrowly defined exceptions, to improve transparency and accountability.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby
strongly supports Michigan Senate Bill 508 and formally condemns the unwarranted conduct of civil
immigration enforcement activities in sensitive religious, civic, and healthcare locations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Board of Commissioners hereby strongly
supports Michigan Senate Bill 509 and 510 and formally upholds the civil liberties, rights, and rule of
law guaranteed to residents in the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State
of Michigan.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds is requested to
forward copies of this adopted resolution to the Governor of the State of Michigan, the Michigan
