INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
1. First and Last Name (Person Submitting the Form): Jayson W. Rumball
2. Organization (Person Submitting the Form): Mr. Rumball is submitting the request on behalf of
Brandon Township, where he serves as Township Supervisor
3. Email Address (Person Submitting the Form):
4. Phone Number (Person Submitting the Form): 248-627-4918
5. Last Name of Sponsoring Commissioner: Commissioner Hoffman
6. Project Overview: Briefly describe the proposed project, including its purpose, goals, and
intended outcomes: Brandon Township is requesting County support for its annual community
fireworks celebration, which serves as a long-standing public event for residents of Brandon
Township, the Village of Ortonville, and surrounding communities. Historically, the fireworks display
was organized by the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority, but beginning this year Brandon
Township will assume responsibility for planning and hosting the event. The celebration includes a
professionally managed fireworks display and a community food truck event held the same day. The
purpose of the project is to provide a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly community gathering that
celebrates local heritage and civic pride. This year’s event is particularly significant as it coincides
with the community’s 250th anniversary celebration. The intended outcome is to ensure the
continuation of this tradition while establishing a sustainable fundraising model under Township
leadership.
7. Project Type: Please select the type of Special Project Request: This request should be classified
as a sponsorship, as it seeks financial support for a community celebration event.
8. Provide a proposed budget breakdown for the project, including but not limited to the estimated
cost of the overall project, and specifically how much you are asking the Board of Commission
(BOC) to contribute: The annual cost of the fireworks display is approximately twenty thousand
dollars, with Wolverine Fireworks contracted to provide the show. Brandon Township typically
receives two thousand dollars each from Brandon Township, the Village of Ortonville, Groveland
Township, and the Ortonville Lions Club, totaling eight thousand dollars in committed support. The
remaining balance is raised through community fundraising efforts. For this year’s event, Brandon
Township is requesting a five-thousand-dollar contribution from the Oakland County Board of
Commissioners to help offset startup fundraising costs as the Township assumes responsibility for
the event for the first time.
9. Provide a detailed timeline for implementation of the project: Planning and fundraising for the
fireworks celebration occur throughout the spring and early summer, with the event taking place
during the 2026 calendar year as part of the community’s 250th anniversary celebration. Funds
provided by the County would be applied directly toward event costs prior to the fireworks display
date.
10. Provide detail on any possible funding partners or matching funds: The fireworks event is
supported by multiple local partners, including Brandon Township, the Village of Ortonville,
Groveland Township, and the Ortonville Lions Club, each of which traditionally contributes two
thousand dollars. Additional funds are raised through community donations and fundraising
activities. The requested County sponsorship would supplement these existing contributions and
help stabilize funding during this transition year.
11. Describe the anticipated impact of the project and how its success will be evaluated: The
community fireworks celebration provides a widely attended public event that brings together
residents of all ages and promotes community cohesion, local pride, and regional participation.
Success will be evaluated through attendance levels, community feedback, and the Township’s
ability to meet fundraising goals while safely delivering the event. Continued community participation
and partner support in future years will also serve as indicators of success.
12. Include any additional information or supporting documents relevant to the project: This year
marks the first time Brandon Township will independently manage the fireworks celebration,
representing a transition in leadership and responsibility for a long-standing community tradition.
The requested County support is intended to provide a one-time boost as the Township establishes
its new fundraising framework and honors the community’s milestone 250th anniversary.
FISCAL IMPACT: No Budget Amendment Needed
