Motion to approve a one-time allotment of $10,000 from the FY 2026 Board of Commissioners’
General Fund Sponsorship line-item budget to sponsor the 2026 Schools Offer Support (SOS) 7th
Annual Strides for SOS 5k Race & Walk. Further, authorize the Board Chair to execute any required
agreements on behalf of Oakland County. Additionally, require that the recipient publicly promote
the County’s support as a Diamond Sponsor and submit an impact report to the Board of
Commissioners by the end of the calendar year, detailing the outcomes of the concert series,
including attendance, participation, and the number of Oakland County residents served.

Describe what you are requesting the Board to fund and what the public will receive as a result.
We are requesting the Board to be a Diamond Sponsor for our 7th Annual Strides for SOS 5k Race
& Walk. All funds raised from this event will strengthen SOS's outreach and provide essential
financial and volunteer support to families facing hardship while also teaching students the
importance of community care.

Strides for SOS is Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Beverly Park. Expected attendance 325-350,
there is a nominal fee to run the race and it is open to the public.
What is the total budget for the overall project, program, or event, and what is the specific amount
requested from the Board of Commissioners? Please present both figures clearly and explain how
the requested amount fits into the total budget.
The cost of the event (Strides for SOS Race) is between $3,500 - $4,000. We are requesting a
$10,000 Diamond Sponsorship from the Commission. Strides is our sole fundraiser and the money
raised supports all of our annual services, grants and volunteer efforts.
Please provide a narrative budget explanation describing what costs exist in the overall budget and
which costs the Board’s requested funds would pay for.
Our budget for 2025/26 is $70,000. 95.7% of every dollar raised goes directly back into the
community. We are an organization made up entirely of volunteers with a minimal fixed overhead.
We would use the Board's funds to fulfill grants for childcare, utility bills including water and WIFI,
food assistance and holiday gift cards. We have seen an increase each year in the number of
families seeking assistance.
Please describe all confirmed funding partners, matching funds, sponsorships, or in-kind
contributions, and specify the amount or estimated value of each.
Our confirmed funding partners are; Corey Law Firm $10,000; Anonymous Donor $5,000; SOS
Board Member Hochkammer Family $1000; SOS Board Member Kiefer Family $1000; Mystique
Hair Salon $1000; Hess Family $1000; Gaylen Curtis $2,500; Integrative Oral Medicine $500;
Goldfish Swim School $500; Bank Rifkin Law Firm $500; Shades Optical $500; Ferrari Insurance
Agency $500; Thrive Yoga $500; Lori Karbal $250; and 13 Birmingham School PTA Councils $250
each ($3,250)
If contributions are not yet confirmed, please describe what is anticipated, what is pending, and
when decisions will be made.
Our race is not until September 27th. We expect participation from previous sponsors including
Marko Law Firm TBD; Dearborn Financial Credit Union $1000 pending; Four Seasons $500
pending; Dogtopia $500 pending; AG-1 pending; Orthodontic Associates $500; Power House Gym
$500; Beverly Hills Club $500; Michigan Orthopedic Surgeons Physical Therapy $500 - and we are
continuously in search of new sponsors, decisions will be made between now and the end of
September.
If the Board does not fund this request, what would change, be reduced, or not occur?
Last year thanks to the Commission's generous donation, we were able to increase the amount of
our maximum annual grant from $1,200 to $1,500 per family. This year, if we are fortunate enough
to receive your Diamond Level support again, we will use it to create a contingency fund for families
whose needs exceed our annual grant parameters. The financial success of Strides for SOS
determines the amount of assistance SOS will be able to provide to bridge the short term financial
needs of our community.
Please explain the public purpose of the project in clear terms, including how Oakland County
residents will benefit.
The public purpose of SOS is to provide financial assistance within the BPS School Community.
Quite simply we keep them fed, we keep the lights and water on and the WIFI working. We keep
children warm in the winter with the proper clothing and we ensure that families are able to
celebrate the December holidays. We also help pay for childcare, car repairs and medical
emergencies.
Please explain what the County receives in return for the expenditure. If the request is a
sponsorship, describe recognition benefits. If the request is a program, describe program
deliverables and measurable public outcomes.
The County will receive an exclusive 3' x 6' Diamond Sponsor only banner at the event. Team
registrations (up to 15) including race shirts. Name and/or logo as "presented by" on ALL event
materials including SOS website, social media, front of race shirts, and BPS email to nearly 13,000
addresses. Opportunity to have branded tent (or table) and swag bags at event.
If this request includes improvements to property not owned by Oakland County, please explain who
owns the property, who will control and maintain the improvements, and how the public will have
continued access to the benefit funded by the County.

Please describe who will benefit from the project, including estimated number of Oakland County
residents served and which communities or geographic areas are expected to participate.
The Birmingham Public School District will benefit from the Board Sponsorship which includes;
Birmingham, Bloomfield Village, Beverly Hills, Franklin, Bingham Farms and portions of Southfield,
Troy, West Bloomfield, and Bloomfield Township. The potential beneficiaries are any resident living
within these communities or employees working within the school district. Participation for the race
is open to the general public.
Please describe how success will be evaluated and what measurable outcomes will be reported.
SOS is a non-profit who receives its funding primarily from money raised by the Strides for SOS
race. The event will be determined to be successful if the total funds raised meet or exceed our prior
years budgeted expenses.
Please confirm that the organization will submit an outcomes report to the Board of Commissioners
by the end of the calendar year and describe what that report will include, such as attendance,
participation, services delivered, and resident impact.
