STATEMENT OF VOTES
CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF INDEPENDENCE
The whole number of votes given for and against the
Charter Township of Independence
Police Protection Millage
Shall the previously voted increase in the tax limitations imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the
Michigan Constitution in the Charter Township of Independence, of 2.8678 mills ($2.86 per $1,000
of taxable value), which, at the time of expiration in December 2025, had been reduced to 2.8282
mills ($2.82 per $1,000 of taxable value) by the required millage rollbacks, be renewed at 2.8282
mills and increased by .3718 mills, for a total levy of 3.2 mills ($3.20 per $1,000 of taxable value),
and levied for a period of four (4) years, starting December 2026 and expiring December 2029,
inclusive, for the purpose of funding and providing police protection and law enforcement services
within the Township, including the purchase and maintenance of vehicles, equipment, offices and
other related capital expenditures?
If approved and levied in full, this millage would raise an estimated $7,781,495.86 in the first year of
levy. By operation of Michigan law, a portion of the millage revenue may be captured and disbursed
to the Independence Township Downtown Development Authority and Corridor Improvement
Authority.

School Resource Officer Millage
CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF INDEPENDENCE

Shall the Charter Township of Independence be authorized to levy a new additional millage of up to
.32 mills on all taxable property within the Township for a period of four (4) years, starting December
2026 and expiring December 2029, inclusive, for the purpose of funding School Resource Officers
to be placed in the Clarkston Community School District, including wages, benefits, training,
equipment, vehicles and related costs for School Resource Officer enforcement services?
Approval of this proposal would allow an approximate levy of $0.32 per $1,000 of taxable value on
all taxable property within the Township. For example, a property with a taxable value of $100,000
would be taxed up to $32.00 for the millage. If approved and levied in full, this millage would raise
an estimated $778,149.59 in the first year of levy. By operation of Michigan law, a portion of the
millage revenue may be captured and disbursed to the Independence Township Downtown
Development Authority and Corridor Improvement Authority.
