REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
September 24, 2009
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Bradford Jacobsen at 8:37 a.m. in the
Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bullard, Capello, Douglas, Gingell, Gosselin,
Jacobsen, Long, Middleton, Potter, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub. (13)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
Karen Jones, Supervisor, Human Resources, addressed the Caucus and answered questions regarding
the Act 312 Arbitration Award update.
Moved by Taub supported by Gingell the minutes of the September 2, 2009 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Democratic Commissioner Schwartz introduced two proposed resolutions entitled Board of
Commissioners – Establishing Suburban Public Transportation Authority and Authorizing Countywide
Millage to be Placed on 2010 Election Ballot; and Board of Commissioners – Transportation Millage
Referendum 2010.
Larry Doyle, Administrative Director, Board of Commissioners, addressed the Caucus and answered
questions regarding the reconsideration of Miscellaneous Resolution #09194 – Sheriff’s Office –
Continuation of Position in the Sheriff’s Office/Corrective Services/Detention/Inmate Program Services for
Expansion of the Electronic Program Which Includes the Driving While License Suspended Population.
Commissioner Gosselin addressed the Caucus regarding House Bill 3200.
Commissioner Taub introduced two proposed resolutions entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for
Michigan House Bill 5279 to Streamline Absentee Voting to Protect the Vote for Overseas Military
Personnel; and Board of Commissioners – Urge the U.S. Census Bureau to Include Citizenship Status on
the 2010 Census Questionaire.
Democratic Commissioner Coulter and Commissioner Jacobsen introduced a proposed resolution entitled
Board of Commissioners – Support for Local Police Departments, Sheriff’s Office and Others Being
Charged for Lein Fees and stated they would like to suspend the rules and vote on the resolution at the
board meeting.
Commissioner Bullard addressed the Caucus.
