HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2011.01.18 - 711120 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ADDITIONAL REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES January 18, 2011 Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:00 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub. (14) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: (0) ABSENT: Weipert. (1) Quorum present. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. There was no public comment. The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. Deputy County Executive Bob Daddow gave a presentation addressing the 2014 budget. Discussion followed with questions. Manager of Animal Control Larry Obrecht addressed the Caucus garnering support for the proposed resolution entitled Public Services Department/Animal Control Division Reorganization. Discussion followed with questions. Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Resolution #11003 entitled Board of Commissioners – Appointment of an AD Hoc Committee to Review Oakland County Policies Concerning Transparency in Governmental Reporting, which he mistakenly referred to the Finance Committee on January 5, 2011 and intends to refer to the General Government Committee at the Board Meeting on January 20, 2011. Caucus Chairperson Taub announced she will be supporting Mary Ann Jerge for the appointment to the Michigan Department of Human Services Board. Discussion followed. Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus suggesting the importance of networking in the city, townships, villages and communities to introduce yourself, especially newly elected Commissioners. Discussion followed. City of Pontiac Mayor Leon Jukowski and Attorney Dennis Collins addressed the Caucus regarding the proposed resolution for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to contract law enforcement services to the City of Pontiac. Republican Caucus Minutes Continued. January 20, 2011 21 Discussion followed with questions and comments from Mayor Jukowski, Mr. Collins, Deputy County Executive Gerald Poisson and Undersheriff McCabe. Commissioner Gingell stated that the resolution will be re-introduced on Thursday, January 20 at the Board Meeting with a motion to suspend the rules and vote as is. Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding the Women’s Commission and which direction to take with the committee. Discussion followed. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding the status of how things are proceeding for the Commissioners in their committee meetings and if there are any comments, concerns or suggestions for improvement. Discussion followed. Commissioner Bosnic addressed the Caucus suggesting changes to the property tax assessment process to make things more clear and tax-payer friendly. Caucus Chairperson Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Caucus night meeting schedule. Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus suggesting Sid Rubin (City Councilman – Keego Harbor) would be an excellent candidate for the CMH Authority Board or the Metroparks Authority. Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus with questions regarding how to handle e-mail complaints; she also presented an opportunity for networking for any Commissioners that may be interested in making appearances at her speaking engagements in various communities; she also expressed her disappointment with the Commissioners not having their new name tags yet.
