HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2011.01.20 - 7114 22 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES January 20, 2011 Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:30 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (15) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: (0) Quorum present. Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub introduced Mary Ann Jerge, a candidate for the Department of Human Services Appointment. Mary Ann Jerge addressed the caucus regarding her background, qualifications, and credentials. No one addressed the Caucus during public comment. Moved by Crawford supported by Potts the minutes of the January 5, 2011 Republican Caucus be approved. A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved. The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub introduced Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Business Manager, Dale Cunningham who addressed the Caucus regarding, re-introducing two proposed resolutions entitled Sheriff’s Office – Contract for Law Enforcement Services in the City of Pontiac and Sheriff’s Office – Contract for Fire Dispatch Services for the City of Pontiac for 2011-2012. Discussion followed City of Pontiac Mayor, Leon Jukowski addressed the Caucus. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding a resolution that was reconsidered before the Board during the December 9, 2010 Board meeting, entitled Department of Health and Human Services/Health Division – 2010/2011 Comprehensive Planning, Budgeting and Contracting (CPBC) Agreement Acceptance. He stated that a motion to adopt the resolution after reconsideration was never done, and now has to be re-introduced. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding the Women’s Commission, expressing that anyone with concerns or questions should call Democratic Commissioner Gershenson. Republican Caucus Minutes Continued. January 20, 2011 23 Discussion followed Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus suggesting that Commissioners may want to sit in on a Women’s Commission meeting. Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus to make a disclosure that although he has professional connections with the City of Auburn Hills he believes it will not affect his vote on proposed resolution entitled Department of Information Technology – Approval of Collaborative Asset Management System CVT Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Auburn Hills. Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub announced to the Caucus that there will be sign up sheet for a February 15, 2011 field trip. Discussion followed. Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub introduced a proposed resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for Creating a Regional Water and Sewer District. Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub presented Oakland County Animal Control Manger, Larry Obrecht with the Orvis Dog Book. Commissioner Hoffman addressed the Caucus to make a disclosure of having a Demolition contract with the City of Pontiac; he also stated it will not affect his vote on two proposed resolutions entitled Sheriff’s Office – Contract for Law Enforcement Services in the City of Pontiac and Sheriff’s Office – Contract for Fire Dispatch Services for the City of Pontiac for 2011-2012. Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus to give his review of the State of State address he attended in Lansing. Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus to request an additional Republican Commissioner to attend an upcoming General Government meeting, Commissioner Crawford volunteered.
