REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
March 24, 2011
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:36 a.m. in the Courthouse
Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin,
Hoffman, Long, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (14)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Matis. (1)
Quorum present.
Moved by Gosselin supported by Nuccio the minutes of the March 9, 2011 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
No one addressed the Caucus during public comment.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus to introduce Community Mental Health Authority Board
Nominee, Sid Rubin.
Sid Rubin – Community Mental Health Authority Board, Nominee addressed the Caucus.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to circulate sign-up sheets for County Executive, L.
Brooks Patterson and Board of Commissioners Chairperson Michael Gingell luncheon.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution #11003 entitled
Board of Commissioners – Appointment of Ad Hoc Committee to Review Oakland County Policies
Concerning Transparency in Government Reporting.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution #11034 entitled Board of
Commissioners – Support for Legislation Reform on Filling County Commissioner Vacancies; she also
addressed the Caucus regarding General Government Committee Report entitled Board of
Commissioners – Appointments to the Community Mental Health Authority Board.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus to report that the Human Resources Committee has no items
to report on the Regular Agenda.

Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus stating he will refer a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution
entitled Departments of Facilities Management and the Water Resources Commissioner – Approval and
Acceptance of Lease Agreement with D’Anco Properties, LLC for Use of Industrial Building and Storage
Yard at 30750 W. 8 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, Michigan to the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus stating he will refer a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution
entitled Sheriff’s Office – Paint Creek Trailways Contract for Law Enforcement Services for the 2011
Season to the Finance Committee.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to remind Commissioners of the upcoming Youth and
Government Day.
Discussion followed.
Communications Liaison, Julia Ruffin addressed the Caucus regarding Youth and Government Day.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Oakland County Deputy Executive, Phil
Bertolini.
Oakland County Deputy Executive, Phil Bertolini addressed the Caucus regarding the Oakland County
Report Card on the County Website, www.oakgov.com/dashboard.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Oakland County Deputy Executive, Gerald
Poisson.
Oakland County Deputy Executive, Gerald Poisson addressed the Caucus to speak about his meeting
with bond companies in Chicago and the County’s bond rating. He also discussed recent population
changes announced via the newly released census data and Governor Snyder’s State budget proposal.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Oakland County Lobbyist Jim Ryan.
Oakland County Lobbyist, Jim Ryan addressed the Caucus to give an update on Governor Snyder’s
budget.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus regarding a democratic proposed Miscellaneous
Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Resolution in Support of Michigan's Film and Television
Tax Credits & in Support of Extending Credits to the Production of Television Advertisements which will
be referred to the General Government Committee.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus stating he intends to support the resolution with an
amendment.
Chairperson Shelley Taub reiterated that a Caucus position is being taken in regards to the nominations
for the Community Mental Health Authority Board.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 11:25 a.m. until April 19, 2011, at 8:30 a.m.
