REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
May 19, 2011
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:40 a.m. in the Courthouse
Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (15)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: (0)
Quorum present.
Laurie Van Pelt, Director of Management and Budget addressed the Caucus during public comment.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus during public comment to introduce Wendy Anderson from the Attorney General’s Office.
Wendy Anderson from the Attorney General’s Office addressed the Caucus.
Moved by Weipert supported by Bosnic the minutes of the May 4, 2011 Republican Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus stating that the Finance Committee will refer items c. and
d. on the Regular Agenda, entitled County Executive/Auditing Division Position Creation and Deletions; and Department of Management and Budget/Fiscal Services Division – Reorganization to Meet Fiscal
Year 2011-2014 Budget Tasks to the Human Resources Committee.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding item b. on the Regular Agenda, a Report entitled Board of Commissioners – Appointment to the Community Mental Health Authority Board.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution #11065
entitled Board of Commissioners – Resolution in Support of Michigan’s Film and Television Tax Credits & In Support of Extending Credits to the Production of Television Advertisements, previously introduced by
Democratic Commissioners: Tim Greimel, Jim Nash, Marcia Gershenson, Dave Woodward and Craig Covey on March 24, 2011.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Weipert addressed the Caucus stating that the Planning and Building Committee has no
concerns regarding their Regular Agenda items.
Caucus Chairperson addressed the Caucus to introduce County Clerk Bill Bullard, Jr.

County Clerk Bill Bullard, Jr., addressed the Caucus to give an overview of the Apportionment Commission.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus to state that he would be referring Human Resources
Committee item a. on the Regular Agenda, entitled Human Resources Department Position Deletion to the Finance Committee.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Parks and Recreation Tour that
will take place during the day on June 7, 2011, and circulated the sign up sheet.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Gay Pride Week Proclamation that will be presented at the Board Meeting by Democratic Commissioner Craig Covey.

Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Lincoln Day Dinner that will take
place at the San Marino Club on May 25, 2011.

Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus reminding them that the next scheduled Caucus meeting is on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 6:00 p.m., she also extended a thanks on behalf of the
Caucus to Director of Facilities Management, Art Holdsworth for driving them on their last tour.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding her attendance at the conference in Traverse City; she also expressed her gratitude to Oakland County staff for their participation in Youth
Proclamations at the local schools.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus, recapping for any Commissioners who may have arrived late.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus to thank Laurie Van Pelt, Director of Management and
Budget for attending the Commerce Community Breakfast.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Library for the Visually and Physically Impaired.
Discussion followed with comment by Laurie Van Pelt, Director of Management and Budget.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 10:11 a.m. until June 9, 2011, at 6:00 p.m.
