ADDITIONAL REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
November 29, 2011
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:02 p.m. in the Courthouse
Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (14)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Dwyer. (1)
Quorum present.
Moved by Nuccio supported by Hoffman the minutes of the September 20, 2011 Republican Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
No one addressed the Caucus during public comment.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus stating that discussion regarding the Board
Agenda will be discussed at the Caucus Meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, prior to the Board of Commissioners Meeting.
Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus regarding the Ad Hoc Committee for Web Casting. He stated
that the Committee is focusing on the issues of greater transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Discussion followed.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding procedural issues that will need to be addressed at the December 15, 2011 Board Meeting.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus to discuss appointment and re-affirmation of Committee
Members, re-nomination of the Board of Commissioners’ Vice-Chair and two positions that need to be filled on the Personnel Appeal Board.
Discussion followed with comment by Administrative Director – Program Evaluation and Operations
Analyst, Jim VerPloeg.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the invitation to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA).
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus stating that the DIA is requesting support from Oakland
County for a millage that could possibly go on the August 2012 ballot.
Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus stating that he will be meeting with representatives of the DIA this week and will get more information.

Discussion followed with comment by Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus reminding Commissioners to be cognizant of potential items for the August 2012 ballot.
Commissioner Gingell asked Commissioner Potts to address the Caucus regarding the Apportionment
Commission lawsuit.
Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus to give an update on the Apportionment Commission lawsuit.
Discussion followed with comment by Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding the Avery Box Tops for Education fund raising program.
Discussion followed with Chairperson Shelley Taub suggesting that Commissioner Crawford propose a
resolution for the Avery Box Tops for Education fund raising program and to contact Oakland Schools to find out which schools would benefit most.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Deputy County Executive, Gerald
Poisson.
Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson addressed the Caucus regarding a resolution by Democratic Commissioners Craig Covey and Helaine Zack proposing to change the Christmas and Christmas Eve
County holidays to floating holidays, he also stated that Oakland County Administration will not support this resolution.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus stating that he spoke to Democratic Commissioners Craig
Covey and Helaine Zack and they stated that they were going to hold off on the proposed resolution until after the New Year.

Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Oakland County Undersheriff Mike
McCabe and asked him to comment on Miscellaneous Resolution #11279 entitled Sheriff’s Office – Standard Law Enforcement Services Agreement with the City of Pontiac, January 1, 2012 – December
31, 2012.
Undersheriff McCabe addressed the Caucus stating that Democratic Commissioner Tim Greimel may propose two amendments.
Discussion followed with comment by Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding some upcoming items of concern as
follows: Detroit Institute of Arts support; Tri-Party funding; SMART system and medical marijuana. He also stated that he would like the Caucus to consider a resolution that makes a firmer statement on the
medical marijuana position, and elaborated on the Tri-Party funding situation stating that he has been in contact with the Road Commission of Oakland County (RCOC) to discuss a solution to the pooling Tri-
Party funds and get those funds dispersed to communities that can utilize them.
Discussion followed with comment by Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding his visit to the Oakland County Republican Party he stated that their concerns were regarding the financing for the Apportionment Commission lawsuit. He
also suggested that the Caucus members should consider making a financial commitment if they have not already.

Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus to take a point of privilege stating that he has been honored to serve as Vice-Chair of the Board of Commissioners and would welcome the opportunity to do so for
another year.
Commissioner Gosselin addressed the Caucus regarding two upcoming holiday events that he will be hosting, and stated he will send out an e-mail to the Caucus with the details.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 6:53 p.m. until December 13, 2011, at 6:00 p.m.
