Misc, 4314 By Mr. Solley IN RE: NOMINATION OF WALLACE CaeNil COU'IfY CIVIL DETMSE DIRECTOR To the Oakland County Board ci Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS Mr. John Madolc has re H Director of the Civil Defense Department to accept an assignment as Oakland Countyts repr e 1 ee to Cali, Colombia, under the Alliance for Progress Program, and WHEREAS the amendment to Sectier 4 of Rule Xi] of the By-Laws, as adopted by the Board of Supervisors on September 11, 1961, places upon the Civil Defense Committee the duty to recommend the appointment of a County Director of Civil Defense to the Board of Supervisors, and WHEREAS the Ge..'nty Personnel Division has advertised the vacancy throughout the County in various media and recriv.,1 11 applications that were carefully screened and reviewed by the Civil Defense Committee La...1 ir l'ersonnel Division, and WHEREAS the Coaildttee has selected as its nominee to fill the vacancy in the position of Civil Defense Director for Oakland County, Mr. Wallace Crane, whose qualifications are as follows: Mr. Crane is 41 years of age, [tarried, has 3 children and resides in Lake Orion. He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and has taken graduate work in public administration and social work. He served in the Army for 3 years and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant of Military Police, Before World. War II, he served as civil defense auxiliary policeman and air raid warden at Manchester, Massachusetts. He was co-director of Civil Defense for 3 years in Orion Township and has trained auxiliary police for Oxford, Orion and independence Townships for over 5 years. Re has been employed by the County for 6 years in the Juvenile Court, first as a case worker and presently as a •afvevisor of case workers. WHEREAS the Commit to:- adopted a unanimous resolution on May 5, 1964 recommending Mr. Wallace Crane for the position of County Civil Defense Director at a salary to be set at $8,000 per year for the remainder of 1964, THEREFORE, on behalf of the Civil Defense Committee, I now place in nomination for the position of Civil Defense Director, the name of Wallace Crane. RE: DEATHS AND SICKNESS To the Oakland County Board of Supervisors Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: During the years I have been on this Board,I have met many fine people and have made many friends. However, during this time, several of our learned and respected colleagues have passed away. On two occasions, to my knowleda' , I was shocked by the fact that two of my friends on the Board had been sick, I think something is definitely lacking in our present system of communication and would like to move that this problem be presented to the Flower Committee for their recommendation to keep us posted en the health and welfare of our associates.
