County Board of Supervisors - Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen: All of Oakland County was saddened last April 23 by the news of the sudden death of our beloved Circuit Judge H. Russel Holland. Just two months earlier, on February 15, Judge Holland retired from the Circuit Bench of this County after 27 years of outstanding judicial service not only to the people of this County but also to the State of Michigan. He was the last of the famous triumvirate - Judge Hartrick, Judge Doty, Judge Holland - who established for Oakland County a most enviable position in the judicial history of the State. Judge Holland was born January 17, 18 at Wilmington, Virginia, and attended the University of Richmond where he graduated in 102. le first became a teacher and later studied law at the University of Michigan where he Cce.sd his degree in 1926. After opening a law office in Pontiac in 1927 he became Pontiac Municipal Judge in 1929 and Circuit Judge in 1936. Judge Holland looked forward to his retirement, which he announced last January, despite efforts by the County's other Judges to persuade him to remain on the Bench. His loss leaves a void most difficult to fill. His judicial ability, his valued advice and counsel to members of this Board, his homespun humor and his friendliness will long be remembered by all who knew him or were in any way associated with him. This Board of Supervisors extends its sympathy to his widow, Nell Holland, and to his son, H. Russel II, and his daughter, Sharon L. Holland, Mr. Chairman, on behalf of all of the members of this Board, I move that the foregoing memorial be spread upon the minutes of this meeting of the Board of Supervisors and that the County Clerk be authorized to forward a certified copy thereof, with the Seal of the County affixed thereto, to his widow and children. SPECIAL COMMITTEE David Levinson, Chairman William A. Ewart, William C. Hudson The resolution was unanimously adopted. Moved by Fouts supported by Hoard the Committee of the Whole arise and the meeting stand adjourned. A sufficient majority having voted therefor, the motion carried. Daniel T. Murphy Delos Hamlin Clerk Chairman
