HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - 2012.04.18 - 7856 219 OAKLAND COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES April 18, 2012 Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:20 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan. Roll called. REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, River, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (14) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Bosnic, Hoffman. (2) Quorum present. Moved by Runestad supported by Matis the minutes of the March 6, April 11 and April 13, 2012 Republican Caucus be approved. A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved. Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission, Bob Kostin addressed the Caucus to invite the Commissioners to a golf outing fund raiser in honor of L. Brooks Patterson on June 19, 2012 at the Meadowbrook Hall Golf Course. Oakland County Road Commission Chairman, Eric Wilson addressed the Caucus during public comment to give an update on the Tri-Party Road funds; and reminded them that maps are available. Public Affairs Associates, Jim Ryan and Tyrone Sanders addressed the Caucus during public comment regarding the State budget. Director of Management and Budget, Laurie Van Pelt addressed the Caucus during public comment regarding the State budget. Discussion followed. Oakland County Republican Party Executive Member, Pam Williams addressed the Caucus during public comment to garner support from the Commissioners regarding the replacement of Angela River as Oakland County Republican Party Vice-President. Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the support for Pam Williams and reminded them that no proxy votes would be allowed. She also announced and congratulated Corporation Counsel, Judy Cunningham who will be sworn-in as President of the Oakland County Bar Association on June 6, 2012. Discussion followed. Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution #12083 – Board of Commissioners – Oakland County Art Institute Authority. Discussion followed with comment by Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson. Republican Caucus Minutes Continued. April 18, 2012 220 Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions entitled Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program Fiscal Year 2012 Appropriation – Oakwood Road – Village of Ortonville - Project No. 51241 (on behalf of Commissioner Nuccio); and Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program Fiscal Year 2012 Appropriation – Pontiac Trail – City of Orchard Lake Village - Project No. 51321, she also stated that both items will be introduced during New and Miscellaneous Business at the Board Meeting and referred to the Finance Committee. Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus and stated that he will be introducing a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Recognition of National Law Enforcement Officer Week – May 13 – 19, 2012; and will request suspension of the Board rules for immediate consideration. Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that he will be introducing a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled: Board of Commissioners – Recognition of National Corrections Officer Week – May 1 – 7, 2012; and will be request suspension of the Board rules for immediate consideration. Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the department memo. Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the suspension list for item a.: Miscellaneous Resolution #12062 entitled Water Resources Commissioner – Request for Approval of Professional Services Contract with Ben Lewis, P.E., Former County Employee. She also announced that two proclamations will be added to the agenda for Armenian Remembrance Day and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes Girls Basketball Team. The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda. There were no items of concern on the Consent Agenda. Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda. Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no issues with the items on the Regular Agenda. Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda. Commissioner Potts addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has no issues with the items on the Regular Agenda, and stated that all items will be referred. Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee item m.: entitled Sheriff’s Office – Authorization for Sale of Recovered and Stolen Property in Spring Auction on the Regular Agenda will be voted on rather than referred.
