ADDITIONAL REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
August 22, 2012
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:11 p.m. in the Courthouse
Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Hoffman, Matis, Middleton, Potts, River, Runestad, Taub, Weipert. (12)
EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Gosselin, Long, Nuccio, Scott. (4)
DEMOCRATIC COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Covey, McGillivray. (2)
Quorum present.
Moved by Matis supported by Weipert the minutes of the June 5, 2012 Republican Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
Republican Caucus Chairperson, Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Deputy County Executive, Phil Bertolini.
Deputy County Executive, Phil Bertolini addressed the Caucus during public comment to give an update
on the status of County Executive, L. Brooks Patterson’s recovery from the car accident.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Oakland County Republican Party (OCRP) Chairperson, Jim Thienel and OCRP Executive Director, Dennis Pittman.

Dennis Pittman addressed the Caucus during public comment to give an update on their fundraising and the Republican Candidate races.
Corporation Counsel, Judy Cunningham addressed the Caucus during public comment.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution #12188, Board of
Commissioners – Rescission of Actions to Extend Board of Commissioner’s Lobbyist Contract.
Discussion followed with comment by Corporation Counsel, Judy Cunningham and Director of Management and Budget, Laurie Van Pelt.
Republic Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous Resolution
#12188, Board of Commissioners – Rescission of Actions to Extend Board of Commissioner’s Lobbyist Contract and suggested taking a Caucus position on this matter.

Deputy County Executive, Bob Daddow.

Deputy County Executive, Bob Daddow addressed the Caucus to give a presentation and circulated a
synopsis entitled: Financial Analysis of Open Issues – Law and Reference Libraries.
Discussion followed with comment by Corporation Counsel, Judy Cunningham and Director of Management and Budget, Laurie Van Pelt.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus inquiring what direction the Caucus would like to take on
the Law and Reference Libraries matter.

Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Presidential Candidate, Mitt Romney’s visit to Commissioner Long’s farm on Friday, August 24, 2012.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the employee incentive
of $500.00 and a 1% salary increase that is in the FY 2013-2015 Recommended Budget, and inquired if the Caucus is planning to support or oppose.

Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding the Senior Advisory Committee.

Director of Management and Budget, Laurie Van Pelt addressed the Caucus regarding budget wrap-up
and suggested that if there are any additional changes or questions to please let her know as soon as possible.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Director of Health and
Human Services, George Miller.
Director of Health and Human Services, George Miller addressed the Caucus regarding West Nile Virus and precautions that can be taken to avoid it.

Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus regarding the P.A.C. fundraiser that will take place on
October 8, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Andiamos.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Chairman of the Road Commission for Oakland County, Eric Wilson.

the news of a fatal accident of an employee.

Oakland County Republican Party (OCRP) Chairperson, Jim Thienel addressed the Caucus to announce
the ‘Roast’ of Jim Thienel that will take place on September 6, 2012, all proceeds will go back to OCRP funds.

Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus to remind them of their post-election statements that are due
on September 6, 2012. The Republican Caucus adjourned at 8:07 p.m. until October 2, 2012, at 6:00 p.m.
