REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
August 23, 2012
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:39 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin,
Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Nuccio, Potts, River, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (16) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: None. (0)
Quorum present.
Moved by Nuccio supported by Bosnic the minutes of the August 1, 2012 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Chairman of the Road Commission for Oakland County, Eric Wilson.
Chairman of the Road Commission for Oakland County, Eric Wilson addressed the Caucus during Public
Comment to give an update on the recent fatal accident of an employee.
Republic Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus during public comment to introduce nominee for Library Board, Pam Williams.
Pam Williams, addressed the Caucus during public comment.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Kathy Crawford, Vice-Chair of the General Government Committee, addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no items to report on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Phil Weipert, Vice-Chair of the Planning and Building Committee addressed the Caucus
and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.

Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee has no issue with the item on the Consent Agenda. He stated that the Public Services Committee has an item on
the Suspension List (item not on Board Agenda) item d.: entitled Prosecuting Attorney – Revision of the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget. Waiver of Rule III – Resolution was taken up by the Human Resources
Committee immediately prior to today’s meeting. (Fiscal Note taken up by Finance Committee on 8-16-12 and attached.)
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus and stated in order to facilitate the web-casting of the Board meeting he will not be calling on Committee Chairs during the Regular Agenda portion of the Board meeting if there are no items to be addressed.
Commissioner Kathy Crawford, Vice-Chair of the General Government Committee, addressed the
Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no issues with items b. through d. on the Regular Agenda, however items e.: Miscellaneous Resolution #12188, Board of Commissioners –
Rescission of Actions to Extend Board of Commissioners’ Lobbyist Contract may be of concern.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Phil Weipert, Vice-Chair of the Planning and Building Committee, addressed the Caucus and
stated that item c.: Facilities Management/Facilities Planning & Engineering – Authorization and Appropriation of Funds for Children’s Village Sallyport Renovations – Secure Detention Pedestrian Door
Addition Installation on the Regular Agenda will be referred to the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Runestad, addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee item c.: entitled Sheriff’s Office – Contract for Auxiliary Deputy Services in the Royal Oak 2012 and item
d.: entitled Sheriff’s Office – Use of Forfeited Funds for Equipment will be referred to the Finance Committee.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that she will introduce a
proposed Report entitled Board of Commissioners – Request for Proposals for Discount Prescription and Health Benefit Program under Unfinished Business; she also stated that she will introduce a proposed
Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Recommendation for Oakland County Discount Prescription and Health Benefit Provider under New Business and refer it to the General
Government Committee.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to announce that the Additional Caucus meeting schedule for September 4th is cancelled.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that Presidential Candidate, Mitt Romney will be
making an appearance at her farm on Friday, August 24, 2012.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus regarding pocket constitutions.
Commissioner Weipert addressed the Caucus regarding the Children’s Village picnic.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that there will be two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions introduced by the Democrats under New Business entitled Board of
Commissioners – Rodent Abolition and Termination (RAT) Program for Oakland County Communities, that will be referred to the General Government Committee; and Board of Commissioners – Oakland

County Business Incubator Program Initiative that will be referred to the Planning and Building Committee.
Commissioner Bosnic addressed the Caucus to recap the Law and Reference Library discussion that
took place at the Caucus meeting on August 22, 2012.
Discussion followed.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 10:40 a.m. until September 5, 2012, at 6:00 p.m.
