REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
January 23, 2013
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:12 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin,
Hoffman, Matis, Middleton, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (12) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Long, Spisz. (2)
Quorum present.
Moved by Middleton supported by Scott the minutes of the January 9, 2013 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Devin Strom, Elections Division during public comment.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no issue with
the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Crawford, Vice Chair of the General Government Committee addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee item b.: entitled Department of Health and Human
Services – Homeland Security Division – 2010, 2011 & 2012 FEMA State Homeland Security Grant Interlocal Agreement Acceptance will be moved to the Regular Agenda. She also stated that the General
Government Committee has an item on the Suspension list (item not on board agenda) item c.: entitled Clerk/Register of Deeds – Appointment of Grant Administrator for Survey and Remonumentation Grant
(Waiver of Rule III: items for printed board agenda shall be presented to the Board Chair five days prior to the Board meeting. Committee met immediately prior to Board meeting).
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no
issues with the item on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no items to
report on the Regular Agenda.

Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus regarding item b.: entitled Circuit Court/Family Division – Request for Approval of Contract with a Former County Employee on the Regular Agenda and stated that
he will refer it to the Finance Committee.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus and stated the Public Services Committee has no items to
report on the Regular Agenda.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Michigan Association of Counties Political Action Committee and circulated literature to each commissioner.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus to introduce two proposed Miscellaneous Resolutions
entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for Increased Measures to Prohibit the Sale of Firearms to Individuals with a Variety of Mental Health Ill and stated that he will refer it to the General Government
Committee; and Board of Commissioners – Study Group on Firearm Registration Compliance that he stated he will co-sponsor with Democratic Commissioner Marcia Gershenson and she will refer it to the
Public Services Committee.

Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for Michigan Senate Bill 49
Providing for the Confidentiality of Information Regarding Holders of Firearms Permits.
Discussion followed.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Oakland County Board of Commissioners Memorandum.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding the retirement party for Larry Obrecht, Oakland
County Animal Control Manager.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 8:34 p.m. until February 7, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.
