REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
May 9, 2013
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 8:43 a.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin,
Hoffman, Long, Matis, Middleton, Runestad, Scott, Taub, Weipert. (13) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Spisz. (1)
Quorum present.
Moved by Middleton supported by Matis the minutes of the April 17, 2013 Republican Caucus be
approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Jim Ryan, Legislative Lobbyist.
Jim Ryan, Legislative Lobbyist addressed the Caucus regarding Medicaid Expansion.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the Agenda being
amended to add Human Resources Committee item a.: entitled Public Services Department – Medical Examiner’s Office Position Deletion and Creation.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no issues
with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has an
item on the suspension list (item not on Board Agenda) item a.: entitled Public Services Department – Medical Examiner’s Office Position Deletion and Creation. (Waiver of Rule III – Resolution was taken up
by Public Services Committee at its regular 04/09/13 meeting. (Fiscal Note was taken up by Finance on 04/25/13.) Resolution was taken up by Human Resources Committee immediately prior to today’s
meeting.)

Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee has no
issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no issues with the items on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no
issues with the items on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has
no issues with the items on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee has no issues with the items on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus regarding the Lincoln dinner.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding the MAC conference and
stated that the May 21, 2013 Caucus meeting is cancelled.
Commissioner Gingell addressed the Caucus regarding an update on Animal Control, DIA-DDA issue and appointment of a new magistrate in the 52/2nd District Court.
Jim VerPloeg, Administrative Director Program & Operations Analysis addressed the Caucus regarding
AV equipment in need of updating, webcasting hits and the Coast2Coast RX card prescription drug program.
Commissioners Long and Scott addressed the Caucus regarding designating July as National Parks and
Recreation month.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding Area Agency on Aging.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus regarding common court curriculum.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 10:19 a.m. until May 22, 2013, at 7:00 p.m.
