REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
August 14, 2013
Meeting called to order by Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:00 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Dwyer, Gingell, Gosselin, Hoffman, Long,
Matis, Middleton, Runestad, Scott, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (13) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE Crawford. (1)
Quorum present.
Moved by Middleton supported by Spisz the minutes of the August 1, 2013, Republican Caucus be
amended, as follows: Please Strike: Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding her attendance at the National Association of Counties (NACo) Awards Luncheon and stated that Phil Bertolini was recognized for his reputation at Oakland County Information Technology. Please Add:
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to recognize Phil Bertolini, Deputy County Executive for his universal knowledge in Information Technology;
and for receiving an award for being Ranked Top Five in Digital Counties by Center Digital Government and the National Association of Counties (NACo).
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes of the August 1, 2013, Republican Caucus as amended, were approved.
No one addressed the Caucus during public comment. Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Deputy County
Executive, Gerald Poisson.
Deputy County Executive, Gerald Poisson addressed the Caucus regarding a new proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – A Resolution of Support for the
Maintenance of the DIA Art Collection.
Discussion followed.
The members of the Republican Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.

Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated that the Planning and Building Committee has
an item on the suspension list (item on Board Agenda) item a.: entitled Miscellaneous Resolution #13207 – Economic Development & Community Affairs Department/Planning and Economic Development
Services Division – Position Changes. (Waiver of Rule III – Resolution was taken up by Planning and Building Committee at its regular 7/23/2013 meeting. (Fiscal Note was taken up by Finance on 8/8/2013.))
Resolution was taken up by Human Resources Committee immediately prior to today’s meeting.
Commissioner Dwyer addressed the Caucus and stated that the Public Services Committee has no issues with the items on the Consent Agenda.
Commissioner Middleton addressed the Caucus and stated that the Finance Committee has no items to
report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Long addressed the Caucus and stated that the General Government Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that the Human Resources Committee has no
items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Commissioner Runestad addressed the Caucus and stated the Planning and Building Committee has no items to report on the Regular Agenda.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding Miscellaneous
Resolution #13112 entitled Board of Commissioners – Support for Medicaid Reform in the State of Michigan under Special Order of Business.
Discussion followed.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Public Affairs
Associate, Jim Ryan.
Public Affairs Associate, Jim Ryan addressed the Caucus to give an update on State Legislation.
Republican Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that Commissioner Gingell will introduce a new proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – A
Resolution of Support for the Maintenance of the DIA Art Collection and stated that he will request suspension of the Board Rules for immediate consideration.
Eric Wilson, Chairman of the Oakland County Road Commission addressed the Caucus to thank the
Commissioners for the Tri-Party Resolutions.
Director Management & Budget, Laurie Van Pelt addressed the Caucus to give an update on the Budget meeting.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Scott addressed the Caucus and stated that there will be a Human Resources Committee
meeting at 6:45 p.m.
The Republican Caucus adjourned at 8:26 p.m. until August 29, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.
