REPUBLICAN CAUCUS MINUTES
August 20, 2014
Meeting called to order by Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub at 6:14 p.m. in the Courthouse Committee Room A, 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Pontiac, Michigan.
Roll called.
COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Bosnic, Crawford, Dwyer, Gosselin, Hoffman, Matis, Middleton,
Runestad, Scott, Spisz, Taub, Weipert. (12) EXCUSED ABSENCE WITH NOTICE: Gingell, Long. (2)
Quorum present.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive.
Gerald Poisson, Deputy County Executive addressed the Caucus to give an update on the City of
Detroit’s bankruptcy proceedings; and to discuss the resignation of Dennis N. Powers, District Judge of Novi, 52nd District Court Division 1.
Discussion followed.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to introduce George Miller, Director of Health and
Human Services.
George Miller, Director of Health and Human Services addressed the Caucus regarding the Health Division web page for Oakland County Homeland Security and the Multi-agency Resource Centers
available for the victims of the recent flood, there will also be an assessment for continuing support.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus to remind the Commissioners that Post-Election Campaign Statements for the August Primary Election are due on September 4, 2014.
Commissioner Matis addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board
of Commissioners – Designating September 11 – 17, 2014, as Michigan Patriot Week in Oakland County; and stated that the resolution will be presented at the September 4, 2014 Board meeting.
Moved by Spisz supported by Runestad the minutes of the July 31, 2014 Caucus be approved.
A sufficient majority having voted in favor, the minutes were approved.
The members of the Caucus discussed the Board Agenda.
Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that the Agenda will be amended to move
Public Services Committee item a.: entitled Sheriff’s Office – Cancellation of MR #14105, Contract for

Dispatch Services in Washington Township on the Consent Agenda to the Public Services Committee under the Regular Agenda.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that the Reorganizational Caucus
meeting will be held at White Lake Oaks on November 18, 2014 at 6:00 pm.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding Dennis O’Connor, a candidate for the Oakland Community College Board of Trustees.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus to announce that the 2014 Heritage
Conference will be held at the Addison Oaks County Park on September 12, 2014.
Commissioner Spisz addressed the Caucus to introduce a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Support of Rerouting the Proposed ET Rover Pipeline and stated that he will
refer the item to the General Government Committee.
Discussion followed.
Commissioner Crawford addressed the Caucus regarding the State Convention.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous Resolution entitled Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program Fiscal Year 2014
Appropriation – Charter Township of Orion – Conklin Road at Orion Road/Mill Lake Road at Baldwin Road – Project No. 52572 and stated that Commissioner Spisz will introduce it during the Board meeting.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus regarding a proposed Miscellaneous
Resolution Board of Commissioners – Tri-Party Road Improvement Program Fiscal Year 2014 Appropriation – City of Farmington Hills – Orchard Lake Road/14 Mile Road/Northwestern Highway
Connector Triangle – Project No. 50261 and stated that Commissioner Dwyer will introduce it during the Board meeting.
Caucus Chairperson Shelley Taub addressed the Caucus and stated that there will be a special Human
Resources meeting tonight at 6:45 pm in Committee Room A.
The Caucus adjourned at 7:46 p.m. until September 4, 2014, at 8:30 a.m.
